Why does BMW continue to sell the K1300S now that it has the S1000RR?
I'm not hating on the K bike; I just want to understand what its role in the company's product lineup is. BMW ditched the K1300GT for the K1600GT, so why does it hang onto the K1300S now that it has the world-beating S1000RR out there?

Hayabusa vs. GSXR-1000
CBR-XX vs. CBR1000 Probably other examples. The K1300S is kind of a super-powered sport tourer vs. a race-type SS1000

The K1300S is to the S1000RR as the Kawasaki ZX14 is to the ZX10. Different focus.

The K1600GT replaced the K1300GT, as being the same idea, just more of it.
As other said, the K1300S is more of a sport-tourer/hyperbike, not a sportbike/racerep. Hopefully, BMW will upgrade there as well, and give us a K1600S to seriously challenge the Hayabusa and ZX-14, and a K1600R just to be awesome (a bike that, if they made it, I would probably buy). PhilB

If they were cars, the K1300S would be a BMW M5, the S1000RR would be an 1M or M3.

I was at the dealer a couple weeks back and in talking, he told me this was the last year for the 1300S. A 1600S was coming down the pipe next. Not sure when. Obviously not in '13.

They had no Race bike.
The s1000rr is the first bike they could race in modern "superbike" type stuff, WSBK, WSTK1000, AMA, BSB, etc. plus all the k=sport touring bike stuff. The k13 is damn fast by all accounts, but 300cc's too large counts it out as a 4 cylinder, and it is no race bike. Funny front end, too heavy, shaft drive-they shaft drive right-so no final gearing changes-easy ones any how. the s1000rr is bmw playing on the same field as everyone else, for the first time in a long time. |

k1300 can probably take the weight of 2 people plus full luggage.
doubt the s1k can do that.

Had a dealer tell me they were not going to produce the R1200R any more, that was a few years ago. Ya never can tell, they sell alot of them and they have a good following.

There's not much overlap between the K13 and the S1K, IMHO. Ridden them both.

Had the local dealer tell me this time last year that 2012 was the last year for the K1300S. Personally if BMW moves to 1600S I will be looking at a different manufacturer for my next sport tourer when my current 1300s is due for a replacement....1300S is already heavy enough, a 1600 would be a pig

I have a K1200R and was actually hoping BMW might go to a triple. K1600S (R)? Hope not.
