Hi DantesDame great website!
It is good to see someone else appreciate the fact that you need a bike for all occasions.

Reading about the "biker bitch" made me curious. How many of you change your own oil and other maintenance? When I first got my bike I didn't. A few years back my GSing date-mate showed me how easy it was (
you know who you are). I try to learn a few new maintenance tasks every year. I think it makes guys feel inferior if you know how to do mechanical tasks that they didn't bother to learn. But that's their issue not mine! I save $50 doing the GT myself - I like saving money. |

Own maintenance
I have always done most of my maintenance, as well as more complicated tasks...( like rebuilding/syncing carbs, adjusting valves, torqueing heads, etc)
I had to learn how on my old British bikes. I actually LIKE tinkering on my bikes, and really enjoy "parts and upgrades" shopping! ( I now work at a motorcycle shop and get parts at cost...woo-hoo!!) My current Boyfriend realizes this and bought me a new exhaust system! ( He knows that had he bought me a piece of jewelry or other non-functional item, I would have exchanged it for a "go faster" bit for my bike!!! He is a KEEPER!!! As far as the opinion that "men feel threatened by or inferior to competent women"..I think perhaps an INSECURE, INCOMPETENT man may feel threatened...I would just stay away from those types, in general.

I do my own oil and filter changes and other minor maint. Wouldn't mind learning a little more about valve adjustments and the like. Maybe I can work something out with Overlander. I'm not that far from Kansas City.
If anyone would like to check out my Lake Superior Circle Tour ride report, it is over at my BMWomen site. http://www.bmwomen.com/viewtopic.php?t=96 Enjoy.

Cafe Claude
To veer a little from the thread,
Around 1989 for a few years when I was living in San Francisco there was Cafe Claude in Claude Alley downtown. On weekends there were great rides to Napa where a male rider desiring to ride would sign up his name on a posted list if he was interested in carrying a girl passenger; passengers could sign up or decide who to ride with at the am departure in front of the cafe. Great food along the way and vino. Only the French can organize rides like this.

Girls Rock!!!
Oh, I ride....just on the pillion seat
I SO admire all you gals who do ride and share your adventures with the rest of us. I took the MSF course, bought a bike and promptly crashed - it wasn't pretty. Took that as a sign from God to keep my butt firmly mounted on the back seat |

It's all good!
Some of the best times I've had over the last year and a half has been without a throttle in *my* hand. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...urnArizona.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...t_1st_turn.jpg Pike's Peak: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...pikes_peak.jpg This is very similar to the Cycle News Photo....but taken by a completely different person. Nearly 20 pages of women riders.....pretty frikken cool! peace, janette Quote:
