I fell in love with the southern part of Croatia and Montenegro. The Campsites were not that bad, its just a pity that they dont invest in a bit more modern sanitary standard. This would make Montenegro an even more pleasant holiday destination for the camping biker. As I said and you definetly know: Montenegro has so much to offer! And once the ice is broken between the Montenegrin and foreigner you get to know their hospitality. Maybe we can meet when I get back down there next year or so....

Day 11...
After leaving Trogir I decided to visit the waterfalls of Krka. For some reason I didn't find the route I intended to go but found a small road going the same direction. This was a lovely road with new tarmac and no traffic. I really had to check my Sat-Nav a few time to be sure I wasnt going somewhere else in this remote area. ...leaving Trogir... ...this could also be in Tuscany/Italy... ...this bridgeway runs through the forest over the waterfalls... ...boy, was I desperate to jump in there - no idea why I didn't.... ...going north on the E65... ![]() the route of the day.... stay tuned for day 12... Day12
Day 12...
Sorry for the dely, folks. I´ve been very busy with work! ;-( Where were we...ah yes. Leaving the Croatian coast going home... I decided to go through the valley of Soca A lovely valley with wonderful landscape. In the north you can either go left over the Vrsic saddle or straight ahead over the Predil pass. Since the weather wasn't to promising and I´ve gone over the Vrsic more often than the Predil, I opted for the last. But before going up the pass I went up the Mangart - a fantasic route not a lot of people know of.... ...this waterfall seems to come right out of the rock... ...going up the Mangart... ...as I said the weather wasnt to promising.... The route to the Mangart is a dead end with a ring road at the top. At the highest point you can park and walk to a clif where you can enjoy a magnificent view. But today I didnt even think about stopping because you could not even see further than the next 10 meters. So I went round the ring road and headed down again. ![]() ...just as I was heading down again, I stopped and had look up to the top and of course the fog was gone... ...after crossing the Italian border the weather got better again... ...coming home.... ...going over ther Obertauern pass... The last night I stayed at a friends who has a B&B in Ramsau/Styria. If you ever look for an accommodation in the heart of the alps - this is the place to be when on a bike trip... Pension Haus Maria ![]() the route of the day.... stay tuned for day 13... Slainte /Keith ![]() ____________________ Alba gu bràth scottyaustria screwed with this post 11-21-2012 at 11:18 PM |

This may seem like a completely regarded question and all, but what on earth bike are you riding????
PS: What camera are you using? PPS: Love the RR.

Great ride report, really enjoyed the photos as well as the text! Thank you for sharing.
I have been a little bit to Croatia and Montenegro (without a bike, unfortunately) and they are both fantastically beautiful. The people have always been very nice to me and the prices are absolutely reasonable. If you liked Trogir (which is lovely), I think you would also love Budva (Montenegro), which is very much like both Trogir and Dubrovnik - beautifully preserved medieval marble-paved towns. Unlike Dubrovnik, although it is a town with a buzzing tourist industry, it is smaller and not a constant fight through crowds! Even Ulcinj, the southernmost town in Montenegro, is worth stopping by - lunch on the promenade in the old centre of town (surrounded by newer development) is nice. Unfortunately Bar, like many port cities around the world, is not quite so pretty. So all in all there is much to explore! Incidentally, I think the Bradt guide to Montenegro (which is the best available, at least in English, perhaps there are superior texts in German) contains details of a walk from Gusinje (in the hinterland of Montenegro) along donkey tracks and across the border to Northern Albania. (Weirdly, I can't work out where the border crossing point would be there). It seems to me that that area would be great for offroaders with a sense of adventure. |
