Part out or whole "81, R80 G/S?

Hello fellow inmates. Getting tired of working on an old bike. 1981 R80 G/S. Running well and need to put in the 5 bearings in the 5 speed trans. Thinking of parting it out or selling it whole. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Have had the bike for 10 years, clean title and will redo the trans bearings if needed. Just getting tired of working on it. Looking for a KLR to keep the 1200 GS company.

Sell it as a complete bike in the ADV fleamarket. It will find a good home and you will get your KLR.

Sell R80 G/S

Yes sell your G/S and get a bullet proof KLR - more nimble than the G/S and you have your 1200 GS for longer rides perfect combo.

Dont sell it in parts. Its worth a lot more if you sell it as it is. Tho, I do not know the prices up there in America. Over here (Europe) an original r80g/s is worth pretty much.

Don't part it out. We need more R80G/ses, not fewer.

A solid used transmission might be a good route to go. You'd recoupe the investment when you sell the bike. Selling it as-is needing a transmission probably isn't your best marketing move.

KLR's a good all-rounder that requires a whole lot less attention than an airhead. Or so I've heard.

trany bearings

The transmission is good always shifted nicely and I can do the bearings easily enough but I am looking at another G/S PD. Just looking for a way to get the other one. Choosing which route to take is my dilema now.
