On To Oaxaca
Since it would be difficult to meet Matt and Uti on the road somewhere in order to ride to Oaxaca together, we decided to ride independently and meet in Oaxaca...and so it would be.
![]() It was a long way down, but I'm entering the state of Oaxaca...oh yeah! ![]() Seeing what l would call a cactus tree for the first time. So different from other cacti I've seen. Does anyone know what this one is called? |

Even New & Expensive BMW's Have Their Issues
Texting each other I learned Matt's bike failed to start about 20 miles shy of Oaxaca, and completed the trip on the back of tow truck.
![]() Luckily for Matt, BMW opened a dealership in Oaxaca during the past year. I'm a little too far to hear his conversation with the service manager...but I think the manager is saying, "this is going to cost you mucho dinero, gringo"! ![]() ...and then I imagine Matt smiles and replies, "no problemo, my BMW USA warranty is going to make me whole again"! If Matt is right, we'll be heading to Puerto Escondido tomorrow. jrzyguy screwed with this post 02-03-2013 at 06:06 AM |

Oacaxa
![]() Nightlife on the Zócalo and adjacent Alameda de León. ![]() The cathedral at the Zócalo. ![]() Another pedestrian walkway lined with amazing architecture. ![]() There is no shortage of vendors selling an endless supply of toys and playthings. ![]() Can you imagine trying to walk your child past these vendors without having to make a purchase? ![]() Walking with the locals on our way to dinner. ![]() It was refreshing to change it up with a nice Italian meal at Mezzaluna with roof top dining. jrzyguy screwed with this post 01-20-2013 at 04:09 PM |

Thanks for the recommendation. We're looking forward to some chill time at the beach...and a little contrast with the city!

Monte Albán
We took a ride out to Monte Albán, the ancient Zapotec capital just west of Oaxaca. Monte Albán is a quiet work of art.

We're headed back into town now. |

Miscellaneous Oaxaca Pics
Matt is checking in with his wife, Natalia. We had a short stay in Hotel Casa del Soltano...it's quite nice, but a bit steep for our budgets.
![]() There was an article written in the Wall Street Journal about Matt leaving his job and taking this trip. The address to check out the article is ...http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...130134980.html ![]() Our current squats...Paulina Youth Hostel. It is economical, clean, well run, and has a small attached garage for the bikes...perfect! ![]() This is another classic face! ![]() Listening to music on a Sunday afternoon on the Zócalo. |

Friends as expats in oaxaca
![]() We went to dinner with friends of Matt's...Jon, Stacy and Ian (Stacy & Ian pictured). They are from Virginia, and have lived in Oaxaca for two years, relocating after prior visits. Stacy telecommutes to Virginia. Globalization is amazing...Stacy answers her Virginia phone number in Oaxaca, and the caller has no idea she isn't in her Virginia office...what a world! |
