Luggage options for Tiger 800's

What cases did you go with for for your Tiger and why? I like the Touratech Zega pro's but then again i wouldn't have paid full price for them. I picked them up for 600 but still had to fork over 400 for the rack (ouch). The thing that attracted me to the Zega Pros was all the extra little accessories that i can add on. All over priced yes but pretty cool none the less. I was thinking about the Konvoi cases but they didn't make a rack and shipping takes a while from Romania (also see thread Holan lost its US Distributor so that wasn't an option. H&B look pretty sweet but also kind of spendy. Heres a list of what i found available on the market. One thing i like about my Touratech cases is that i can fit my whole helmet in the large one which is pretty cool when you stop at a store or something.

Touratech Hard boxes
Triumph OEM panniers (plastic),
Holan Hard boxes
Jesse Hard boxes
Giant Loop soft bag
Happy Trails Hard boxes
Metal Mule Hard boxes
Konvoi Hard boxes (better read this thread)
Caribou Cases (plastic)
Kriega Overlander
Wolfmann Expedition Saddle Bags
Hepco & Becker
SW Motech's TraX Evo

Have a set of Happy Trail Tetons (7.5") off my V-Strom that I'm using. Probably not the most stylish but function well with over 30,000 miles on them with no problems. I'm using the SW Motech quick release racks so the clean lines of the bike can be maintained when the cases are not on the bike.

I ended up with the Givi PLR6401 quick-release side racks, and an SW-Motech Alu-rack for the back.

Givi bags (trekker set 33L/46?) goes on the sides, or use one as a topbox if needed. I also use a Givi City II topcase; it's the go-to top case because it's small yet has plenty of capacity for a weekend trip.

90% of the time there are no cases on the bike, and the side racks are off. Why add aero drag to your bike when you don't need to?

I weighed luggage options for quite some time before I made a decision, and eventually decided against hard cases for three main reasons: first, they're expensive; second, they're heavy; and third, they're more likely than soft bags to cause injury if crashing in loose conditions. Those first two reasons were the primary ones influencing my choice; the third just reinforced it.

But that said, I'd also gotten very tired of dealing with unsupported soft luggage. It's just a pain to get in and out of regularly. So I got a set of the Givi PLR6401 quick-detach pannier racks like Yossarian did (and they do indeed detach quickly -- they can be mounted and unmounted in about 30 seconds) to support the Wolfman Expedition Dry panniers. I also got the Twisted Throttle DrySpec tail luggage system. The combination of the Wolfman panniers and TT tail luggage works great -- lightweight, waterproof, rugged, and plenty spacious for a two-week trip (and would be plenty for longer trips too, as I wouldn't really carry significantly more, I'd just stop once or twice to do laundry).

Here's the setup on my recent Labrador/Newfoundland trip.

I agree. Might add that side cases take up a lot of room in the garage and make the bike hard to mount (at least for me)

Top case or tail bag gives me enough storage for most of my daily riding needs.

I ride with my cases on all the time. A side benefit is that they help protect the passenger foot pegs.

I went with the Happy Trails Teton's @ 7.5" width. My deciding factor was the price. For all hard cases, they are all functionally very similar and I couldn't just see spending so much more for the other hard case options.

Overall I am happy with the HT boxes, however...
  1. I should have purchased the 9" width boxes - 7.5" is narrower than I expected. Tape measure doesn't equal reality!
  2. The HT mounting rack is totally symmetrical so there is a huge gap on the left side of the bike (no muffler to fill the space). I'm currently figuring out what/how to put a smaller bag between the inside of the pannier and the bike. It's unused space that can be utilized - just need to find a solution I'm happy with.

Stock Triumph cases here.

I'm not really impressed with the mounting design BUT I do really like the bike-specific locks, & extremely easy mount/dismount procedure. I upgraded from a KLR with ammo cans & knob-mounts which were a b!tch to mount/dismount. I usually left them on not wanting to deal with it.

I got to say the balance movement system they designed into the box mounts is pretty cool, being it feels way lighter than my ammo cans while riding.

There are 15 pages of info here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=707819

That said, I also have the Givi racks with a v47 top case on an Altrider rack and Givi B36n cases on the side (when I travel). I don't think there's a tighter fitting rack for the right side WITH stock exhaust. I plan on mounting some sort of tool tube/case on the left side between the rack and sub frame. I leave the racks on all the time.

Caribou 25L top box that never leaves the bike.
Then, an assortment of Kriega (US-30, 2x US10's & 1xUS20) bags depending on what I need and how long I'll be gone. Like Mark though, there is a fair amount of rigamarole involved with all the dry bags. I'd like to rig up my Kriega bags as saddlebags, but I've never seen anyone do it. I might try the Givi rack just because it seems the most economical.

My son and the Tiger up at Big Bear. Touratech Zega Pro's and a Wolfmann bag with a Triumph bag stacked on top.
