FZ6 vs Bandit 1200

I'm picking up a "new" used bike this weekend. I've got several that I'm looking at but the finalists have come down to a 2006 FZ6 with about 10K on it and no mods other than frame sliders, it looks pristine. The other contender is a 2002 Bandit 1200 (non oil burner VIN) basically unmolested with about 20K. The FZ is $3200 and the Bandit will go for $2800. Both are fairly local to me.

I like the Bandit simply b/c I've never had a big bore bike. I like the FZ b/c it looks better and overall seems like a more modern package with FI and undertail exhaust. Honestly, I'm torn. I don't think I could go wrong with either but I'm leaning toward the FZ b/c I really hate messing with carbs.

Main uses are commuting and weekend rides of 600-700 miles with an occasional multi day trip thrown in for fun. I've sat on examples of both and they are equally comfortable to me. I guess it's a good problem to have. Any thoughts?

Nevermind, wow that was quick. The guy just texted me back and I'll pick up the FZ6 tomorrow. Man, I can't wait! I'll be over in the FZ6 thread if anyone needs me If I only had more money I would've bought both!

Oh well. I have had a 600 and 1200 Bandit. I LOVED my 1200 Bandit and it is one of the bikes I wish I never sold. It was a total sleeper. It was a 1200N but I prefer naked bikes. I upgraded the front and rear suspension and it was about perfect. Great two-up, as it had gobs of torque and just didn't care whereas the 600 two-up was a DOG.

Not able to compare to the FZ6 though. I have a friend that has one and he really like it.

I've owned many bikes, including an FZ1 and Bandits 1200/1250. The FZ6 is a fine bike, but it's hard to beat the wallup of a larger CC bike, makes touring easier, and just better overall. Just my opinion.

I wasn't gonna get messy with the carbs so it was FZ6, 919 or Bandit 1250
for me, and to be honest, I still wish I got the 1250, but I couldn't afford a
good one.

FZ6 is lighter, should handle better, but fuel consumption is virtually the same.

I owned both at the same time. 2007 fz6 and 1998 bandit 1200. The fz6 is long gone, but the bandit remains.

The deal on the fz6 fell through due to a problem on the seller's end. I'm going to look at a bandit 1200 this afternoon with about 20k on it. Price is right and it looks good in the pictures.

That's actually very good news.

I would pick a B12 over FZ6 any day.

Other then torque, the FZ6 should do everything else better or very similar.

I <3 torque, and if that was the only consideration, I'd pick the Bandit 1200 without thinking it twice...

BUT...

The FZ6 has about the same power in a lighter package, with a stronger frame. It will be more fuel efficient, and it will handle better. Also the B1200 won't be very happy at low speeds in warm weather whereas teh FZ6 won't break a sweat.

+1 but the FZ6 DOES get hot around town, even the naked version.
More then I'd figured it would.

Probably has something to do with R6 engine..

I'd go with the FZ6. I think its an overall better motorcycle in every area except two up touring.

I've seen a lot about how bad the Bandit is 2up, and I'm surprised how
good my FZ6 is, compared to the 650R I owned for example which was
a slightly longer bike, the FZ6 is better in every way for 2 up, again, other
then torque.
