Dallas to Albuquerque - advice needed

Hi. Can anyone give me good intelligence on the best roads from Dallas to Albuquerque? I plan to ride solo and am looking for an interesting paved route. I will be equipped to camp. Thanks!

Ive done that route dozens of times in a car. Nothing ive ever seen. I took US 287 I believe. It runs from Dallas to Amarillo. ..then hop on 40 west into NM (where i used to live) . There may be a network of farm to market roads you could take..but ultimately its pretty boring imho. Any camping places there would be stealth in a field where youll wake up to a combine eating your bike. There are MUCH better places in NM to play and camp. Btw. .I saw youre in the Santa Monica mtns...I grew up in Calabasas. Been allllll over those mtns. I miss California so.

how many days do you have?

If you have more then a few then -

Carlsbad caverns is nice - good tent camping just south at Guadalupe NP

Go from there round thru Cloudcroft (or go south and spend a couple days in Big Bend)

BoxerMoose has a good plan.

A little quicker, but less scenic would be 380 west to 114, to Clovis, then Santa Rosa.

Thanks for the intel

Thanks to all for that great info. I'll be pouring over my maps. Hey Buckthedog, I live in Calabasas. The Calabasas Highlands to be exact. Tucked right above Mulholland Hwy - the gateway to some of the best roads in CA. Small world.
