Two DR650s to Ar-Kansas Mountains

It's too snowy here in Missouri to do any riding, so I thought this would be the best time to do my very first Ride Report.

The Date:
Labor Day Weekend 2011
September 3rd-5th, 2011

The Riders:
Devin (me)
I had been riding just a few short months at the time of this ride.

IMG_0657

Jerry (father-in-law)
has been riding for 40+ years

IMG_0658

The Bikes:
2011 Suzuki DR650 (Devin's bike)

IMG_0615

2006 Suzuki DR650 (Jerry's bike)

IMG_1096

The Adventure:
Arkansas Mountains
Total Distance: 757 Miles
https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=P...a=2,12&t=m&z=8

Each day of the 3 day ride will be getting its own post.

Day 1

This picture was taken the day before my first big trip. I was testing out how everything would fit and ride when I decided not to take the tank bag. It was too intrusive, as it got in the way of my knees.

We decided to get a hotel room, so no camping gear was needed. We just packed extra pairs of socks, shirts, and underwear, but no food, as we would be close to restaurants.

This was our first stop, just a few miles outside of Salem, MO. Jerry had to adjust his back.

We were a bit hungry by the time we arrived in Licking, MO. Subway, Eat Fresh!

Route to this point.

This is the Hodgson Water Mill, located close to Gainesville, MO. It was a very neat place to stop and refill water bottles.

This photograph is of me hitting the first 1,000 miles on my new bike. It is the first street legal bike that I have ever owned. I look forward to logging many more thousands of miles on this bike.

We made it to the Super 8 in Harrison.

Harrison is a very popular place for riders to stay when they ride throughout the area. It is centrally located within many twisty routes. We saw many Harleys on the road that weekend.

There were still a couple of hours before the sun went down, so we decided to go for a little ride. The route we took is called the Jasper Disaster.

Beautiful country. Thanks for sharing.

That's terrific mileage on the big DR.

Day 3 -- Ride Home

We didn't make many stops or take many pictures on the way back home. It was pretty chilly that day, and very windy. We fought the wind the whole way home.

Jerry realized that the heat shield on his headpipe had lost a screw. He took the other screw out and stored the shield in a dirty sock.

I am getting 35 out of my 13' XR650L. But I have a windshield and ride 75mph

Looks like a great trip,I've been thinking about a trip to that area.Haven't been since I was a kid in the early 70's.I had a little trouble bringing up a couple of your route images though.

You got some good gas mileage too!

Sorry about the route images. I've had a real time trying to figure it out! It's working on my end though.

It was a great ride for a newbie like myself.

I thought it was a bit low, due to me being a bigger guy. Guess I was wrong!
