Awesome Video
Walter, great video and fantastic ride report. The video really adds some depth to what the trip was like.

I like it. Top 1. Great gang, interesting RR, and good work as education too. I am searching it every day.

Question for Rod
Rod, I keep trying to put myself in your situation but I can't get my simple little head around it. When you parted ways with the rest of the group did you not start feeling a little apprehensive?
To be quite frank If I was in the situation of loading a broken bike onto the back of a truck, driving to a city where'd I'd never been with two people I'd never met that couldn't understand a word I said and vice versa with no idea as to whether I'd be able to get my broken bixed fixed, my stress levels would be through the roof and my underwear would be a rather less pleasant place to be than normal ![]() However, you seemed to have not been fazed at all. I don't get it but I admire your constitution

Alright, it's been a while since I've commented; lord knows I've wanted to after every single update that Walter puts up, but I've been trying hard not to clutter up the RR with useless posts. Your pictures and story telling (all you guys & gal, not just Walter) have been fantastic, but that video is purely infectious! Can't wait to see more, can't wait for you to complete the DVD Walter, and I can't wait for me to have to opportunity to experience that part of the world first hand.
Thanks a billion for sharing, and I can't wait for Mongolia!!!

Altai mountains look really great. Too bad I did not have time for Altai and Mongolia this year!

Altai region looks worth the trip alone......Walter....in your opinion, would it be possible to do this trip on say, a standard 650BMW single/twin eg. the new Sertao, at a steadier/gentler pace....i cant afford a road bike and an expensive off road bike so couldnt afford any fancy suspension parts etc (but obviously a few sensible mods)

IMO the Altai is worth going for sure. There are a lot of tracks out there that are amazing. But some can start as real easy gravel roads and turn into technical hill climbing with lots of rivercrossings.

I was wondering how much kilometers do you guys drive on an average day? Or what do you prefer?
Keep up the good work! Looking forward to visit the altai region next year as well. |
