My bike did ok, as long as the deep rivers were not to wide.
If the carbs were submerged too long, water would be sucked in through the float bowl vents. Than it would still run but not as smooth as it should.(but i'm working on that problem for next trips )

The bags were not waterproof, but I was using Sea to Summit liners and they were great.
When this trip started my Steel Pony panniers were new. But by now the fabric was worn through in several places.

Next time I will take the Magadan panniers.

Beamster did a great job.
River crossings will always be unpredictable. Some might look easy but are very slippery, others look shallow and will be surprisingly deep.
Big rocks might trow you from side to side, together with some nice strong current to give you an extra push.....

Here Terry and I discuss our tactics.

This was Beamster's facial expression after the tactics didn't work out as planned.

Day 55 part 4

All 3 of us were really enjoying the beautiful views. Which varied from grass land with swamps to forest tracks with rocky steep descents

After a nice track going through a forest we came across a plateau were two locals were sitting next to their horses.
They were scouting the horizon with there binoculars.

Terry asked them what they were looking for. Than I heard the russian word for.............No not again.........WOLVES
They explained to us that wolves had killed one of their two dogs that night.

Wolves?

Back in the story where the apparent lightning strike had killed the cattle-----just prior-- there was a picture posted of a 'wolf' that evidently had been captured? That 'Wolf' looked very much like the animal that we call "coyote" here in central Utah ? We don't have any 'wolves' per se around here--I think 'wolves' are much larger animals? As there has been no mention of 'coyotes' in the story I'm curious to know whether "wolf' is just a term being used to describe either animal?

In the living room of the Kazakh farm one wall was full of photo's of wolves killed by hunters in the snow.
The puppy in the cage was a lot bigger than all the coyote's I have seen.

If that's one's expression when things don't work out as planned then nothing in this world can throw you off.
Excellent. That's the spirit that moves mountains.

Hey crew, I have a question. In the post #1897 by Prutser in the top photo on the left in the mountains - is that a glacier? Looks like it on the picture but is it a real McCoy?
Awesome job on river crossings I admire your skills

Yes it is a glacier.
If you are interested check out Google maps you will find a lot of pictures of those glaciers over there.
(near Kuray)

I have been checking them out with my binoculars and could stare at them for hours.
