The big bikes are on Heidenau K60's as well, brilliant for long distance road and gravel but not much good on wet clay or deep clingy mud.
I don't think anyone having read Walter's reports would head off on this kind of a trip on the big bikes. Certainly has changed my view of real adventure bikes. Keep up the good work team extreme, thank you for the effort you all put in to make this report such a great read. |

Great RR guys, beautiful pics too.[/QUOTE] Probably so Heavy it broke a water line when he pulled across it! ![]() I kid I kid. I have an 1150 Adventure in my stable. I love the bike but it does not get to go on trips like this!

Great RR, trully enjoying it and making my desire to do this trip one day bigger and bigger.
The guys on the big bikes did do the trip, while 99% of the big bikes are farkeled out to the max for a weekend play outside the city. So I say respect for the guys on the big bikes, they had an adventure many of us only dream about. ![]() Now, I am ready for more adventures of our fearless foursome and the (soon not to be) lonely wanderer. Again in to agree that this RR is the real McCoy (and funny too)
The different views-report-pics of all the team members just makes it splendid compliments to all ![]()

Priceless captionLet's hope that when they return it's on small bikes in stead of bringing on the pavement. Oh man, this report beats all others by miles.... I hope it will never end.

Well somebody needs to step up to give props to the pig riders, and perhaps inject some useful counterpoint.
We all get a good laugh at Touratech-kitted behemoths that rarely venture off the tarmac. It's an old joke here. And not an invalid joke: 1200GS is the new Harley in parts of the US ![]() But let's remember that every bike in Walter's entourage here is modified and improved (extra tanks, top-shelf suspension, Nav gear, aux lights, custom racks, custom belly armor, etc etc etc) to a monetary extent that most readers here would find prohibitive to replicate. We laugh at dude's Touratech-farkled 1150GS Adventure, but i'd wager he has less $$ in that farkled pig than any of the Sibirsky riders' individual machines. Hell, it looks in that pic like he still has the stock front shock ![]() I am fully on board with "light is right" in this kind of travel, and i would rather have any of the Sibirsky bikes than a big pig in this riding/terrain profile any day. I just think a guy taking an off-the-rack GS pig and adding some farkles and getting out there in the world and not giving a second thought to fuel pumps etc is worthy of a little more considerationIf my big fat oilhead GS were the only thing standing between me and Mongolia, i sure wouldn't sit at home

![]() These guys are out crossing Mongolia which is more than l can say for most ridiculing them. They have my respect for taking 600lb bikes through these places. Let's get back to the ride.

I love my big bike for riding here in the states and we do a lot of 2-up stuff and a ton of good gravel, occasional passable jeep tracks, but nothing like the terrain these guys are crossing...that's where I am on the KTM, alone
. There is nothing wrong with the big bike if you use it for what it is good for, hauling a ton of luggage for two people or myself even, but not this trip! If you ride a lot, you will own a bunch of bikes! I do think it's incredible that they did this ride and Kudos to them!

In any case, my adventure bike (a wee) has never been east of the Continental Divide, and only has been on 20 miles of silt and baby head rocks. Perhaps they misjudged the ride conditions, but they are riding a bike, not a keyboard. Big thumbs up for even attempting a trip like that. ![]() Excellent ride report. |

Have 450s to 1200s in my garage and have to say that the Tenere is amazing for its size off road, better than my DR650 was IMHO but neither are fun in deep mud or sand. I think I would have a WR250r or a true enduro on this trip.
