Exactly: Dilution is the solution.

This ride report is blowing my mind. The story, the characters... the scenery! Thanks Colbatch for sharing so much. You`re a remarkable wealth of information. Would love to share a beer or two with you and Terry and crew.

Cheers!

There was still dangling going on? Suppose it wasn't too cold then

I don't see a Sibirsky sticker on the BAM sign. No proof you were ever there.

I don't know the reason for the faulty bearings, but guess they did not like water, sand and mud over time. They were not completely toasted, but they did not run smooth anymore - checked with finger while replacing front tyre. I replaced them around 25.000 km. The seals were not super tight and there were not too much grease in there either. I will aleways bring spares. Cheap parts and quick to replace with proper tools.

Day 72 - Olkhon Island to Zhigalovo

Steve has gone a little ahead of us with the pics here... My fault as I have been away from the internet all weekend. Smartphones are great, but not for doing ride reports :)

We left Khuzhir village on Olkhon Island with our target for the day being Zhigalovo, a town halfway between Olkhon and the BAM.

Waiting for the ferry with the locals:

Erik and Geir on the ferry back to the mainland:

The road is a scenic one and follows the Lena River after the town of Kachug. As we left Kachug, I turned around to Steve and Erik and tried to show the point on the road that was the end of the asphalt between here and Magadan, but it was difficult at 80 km/h.

The weather was looking dodgy and no-one wanted to stop and waste too much time ... so we powered on, beside the early stages of the River Lena.

There were some nice distractions:

And we arrived in Zhigalovo in good time but in the rain. It was the first days ride as the new group of five, and though we had enjoyed the pleasure of a few short torrential downpours on the road, I was happy that the new boys seemed comfortable.

We were going to take a rest day here in Zhigalovo, change tyres and get some welding done on Geir and Eriks front subframes to strengthen them up for the BAM. It was now or never in terms of bike prep.
