How to deal with battery leakage
I got a great deal on a 60CSx at the REI garage sale. I thought the batteries had leaked a little but turns out it's eaten through the plastic and 3 of the battery terminals are broken or loose. Any ideas on where I can find a replacement back cover?
The circuit board had a little leakage but it cleaned right up with vinegar. ![]() Sure enough, can see right through it ![]() ![]()

Never seen a whole back to a 60csx available as a part. You might find one on ebay.
Another option is to send it back to Garmin for a refurb. But then your really good deal might not be such a really good deal after all. I'm surprised REI took that back. Clearly not a manufacturing issue.

REI will pretty much take anything back. I thought maybe an advrider had a bricked one laying around... guess I'll also try in the flea market.

For future reference... Do not leave batteries in devices when not in use. For whatever reason they only leak in expensive devices. GH

Often the battery damage you see doesn't come from the item being stored with batteries in it - it's because someone hasn't put the batteries in right and reverses the polarity on one, then they leak. Or they mixed battery types. So for future reference: do not buy gear with battery damage already.
