Some more perspective on the 390!

http://blog.ktm.com/bikes/the-heart-...builder-talks/

Still don't understand how is that ultra light weight twitchy front end going to cope with the higher speeds of the 390! Speculated top speed of about 180kmph, will be scary fun to ride this at those speeds.

You've never ridden a 450 based sumoto? A steering damper is all you need to cruise at 80 MPH with one hand on the bar. That's a good 40 lbs. lighter.

Bike looks to be in production in full swing here. But doesn't look like KTM is launching it anytime in the next 2-3 months here... :(

Word is 14 model, it takes them a while to get them into the states. That's why there won't be a 1190 Adventure this year.

Its a MAD bike!! Looks like its doing 0-100 Kmph in about 5.xx seconds, that too with a mis-shift in between!

Reviews from Germany and Austria are pouring in, everyone is giving the bike a BIG thumbs up so far. We are a few weeks away from launch here, can't wait to put down my money!

Seriously? Every caliper that does not have opposed pistons is a floating caliper, it must slide the whole caliper to the piston side to put pressure on both brake pads.

It has been quite common, for a while, to use floating calipers with floating rotors. For example, the 1998 SV650 had floating calipers (two pistons on each caliper, both on the same side of it) with floating rotors.

But it is impossible to have a non-opposed pistons caliper that is not floating, no matter what kind of rotor you use, the caliper MUST slide. What you see on most sportbikes, are radial mounted opposed piston calipers, where the pistons will do all the moving and the caliper itself is not required to move.

KTM390 Duke rental in Italy?

I will be in Italy next month for a couple weeks. I wonder if it would be possible to rent a Duke 390 for a couple days while I am there?
I will be in Rimini for a week and Rome for a week.

Another Aussie website with a ride review - http://www.bikesales.com.au/reviews/...390-duke-36110

So a hypothetical. I'm riding a Honda vtr250 at the moment. The fellow in this review above is about 6foot2 which I am also. He says on the duke his knees bump into the tank rather than slot in. I wonder if he is just overly lanky. Then he says there are better Naked bikes (including LAMS ones) for taller riders. He talking about cb500f? Naked ninja650? Worried that ill be too big for this bike. Quite comfortable on the Vtr seat could be better though. Have a 33.5 inseam. Cycle ergo has me looking comfy knee-wise with 1 degree forward lean and 73 deg knee angle (31.9' seat height). Silly website not working so can't compare this to the Vtr at the moment. Am I dreaming ill fit and be comfortable on the duke?

Edit - So now I've checked the vtr250 and duke 390 and crf250l as well (as I've had a test ride). VTR at 6'2 and 33inseam 65deg knee angle, 16deg forward lean, 30.7' seat height. The 250L has me at 82 deg knee angle and bolt upright 0 degree lean and 35.1' seat height. So this leaves me all confused. I felt quite comfy on the 250l in terms of legs/knees. Guess I'll have to wait and sit on a duke390. Seems the duke390 will be more comfortable than the vtr depending how my legs are on the tank area and if they slot in.

I had a go with the 200 at a Go Kart track... It was ridiculously fun! The 390 will be amazing!

Only reason I didn't buy the 200 right there was because of the 390. Just have to figure out how to make the finances work, happily it's not here yet.
