I'm glad you discovered the missing muffler bolt before you developed problems.
Thanks for posting the amazing photographs! Spud

Your writing is becoming increasingly polished, Bryce. Your content and style, along with your attention to detail, make for a rewarding and entertaining read. And the pictures, well, it goes without further saying...

Looks much more enjoyable than my ride today. 30 degrees and foggy.
That dirt road looks AWESOME! Wish I could've been there.

You know you are doing some proper dual sport riding when some bolts come loose and fall out.
Nice to see an XR650L out for an adventure. Thanks for sharing. |

About the booze- seriously dude, that stuff is laced with at least 2 plants that get you high. Don't know what the scorpion does. Maybe just for street cred?

Similar thing in Japan, Abu Sake. Has a poisonous Abu snake in the bottom of it. Supposed to mess you up pretty bad.

By the way Bryce, check your right fork seal.
Thanks again for the amazing pics and entertaining text! Dan

In addition to what PanheadDan above recommends, might I suggest an afternoon of wrenching? Heaven knows that I am a poor example of conducting good maintenance, but it does help to go over the bike and check every nut and bolt on the machine, even down to checking the spokes. Truly, go over the whole bike and tighten everything that you can see or touch--this would have probably saved your muffler bolt. There are a ton of XL riders following this post, so all that you have to do is ask (such as, how do I check the fork seal....). On another note, this is like the Fellowship of the Rings. I have no idea what we are going to do when you reach Mordor and return the ring to the fire within Mount Doom.

Late to the party but enjoying the photos and write-up all the same. Already noted by several, but those clouds and Machu Picchu together...sublime.
