if you like the bike you already have then I would use it. You're going to need a subframe for any bike you use so start with what you have.

That was a nice find.Just finding a Ural tub isn't easy anymore..But a brand new one even better.I had my first one with a81RT.The tubs are heavy,but probally the strongest tub out there..Depending on what you are using it foe you might want to consider more horsepower..Airheads are great tub bikes but a little slow on power,but dependable as hell..I have mine on a 03 GSA has all the power I need..NIce find though...

I did a lot of reading on this forum before I came up with the design for the leading links that I finely built and they have held up with no problems other than not having enough dampening in the Sportster shocks. I need to find some better ones, but I should weight this thing first as it is heavy.

The issue there is power. And suspension. Not enough, and not enough.

About using that 1980 R100RS, ground clearance and suspension travel is not nearly as critical on a rig as on a solo bike for backcountry travel. I agree with Cleatus that unless yer gonna do some gnarly roads, all you really need is a stout suspension. That just means that if the shock is OK, you just need to upgrade the spring and then do the same to the forks.

There are lots of R1100gs showing up later ones post transmission problems are easy too find have enough power, are geared lower and Side Effects are in your neighborhood for support, old Honda GL1100 unfaired models work good but lack ground clearance.DB

Ok that is very nice, something like I was thinking. I checked to see if the local guy had tubing that I wanted, he does. So once work slows down I think I will make some mounts for the CX just to get going. If it works great then I will invest more time and money into the CX. Or if it works but I need more power, etc etc I will continue the search for a better bike to pull the car with so this should give me more time to save the money I need. I should be able to build a mount and sub frame in a couple of week ends so won't really have that much invested. I will keep posting here of my progess as it happens. Thanks for all the advise

Why not visit with Peter & Brock at Side Effects in Kamloops. Am sure they could whip up a custom subframe for you in no time. I think that bike would make a nice tug, but with a lighter sidecar... just my opinion. There was a neat little rig for sale in BC Kijiji recently that they'd built - an adventure style sidecar on a Honda Transalp.

Yes I saw that ad for the Transalp. I am seriously considering Side Effects, but I do have the fab skills, just not as well engineered as theirs. If I find the perfect GS, (Read Cheap) I may contact them to have it attached.

You have the CX, they work well as a sidecar bike. The sub frame is very easy to make for this bike, It will not cost all that much to mount the sidecar if you make the mounts your self. So I say run the CX

The 2wd sidecars like that have less wheel lead than the 1wd Urals. You may want to mount the whole thing a bit forward of where you otherwise would mount a typical Ural sidecar.

You might also want to consider the best way to remove the 2wd bits for free wheeling...
