Help! Oil issues
I had to ship my bike overseas, so with that i had to drain the oil. I had recently done an oil change so i was just tryinh to refill with fresh lube. I was only able to out around a third of a quart before it puked out everywhere and wouldnt take anymore. Not sure what to do, i double checked by pulling the plug and nothing in the case. I didnt fire it up in fear of there being no oil in the bearings. Any help?

It wont flow into the case until you start the motor. If the camchain rattles for too long, thats when you have a problem.
So run it for 20 seconds, then top up the oil tank to bottom of the dipstick, then warm it up and top up to 3/4 way up the stick. |

you probably took out only that what was in the engine when you drained it.

When you drained the oil you drained the sump (bottom bolt) AND the oil tank, right? If you are trying to add oil and you have not drained the oil tank it will puke out like you described. If you didnt drain the oil tank you might as well go ahead and do it now and add oil per the owners manual. ( put 2.5 liters in, run for 4 minuted and add another 1/2 liter, or something like that....)

I had the exact opposite happen when I changed my oil last month: I pulled the case drain plug, and a HUGE amount of oil came out. It was somewhat alarming, and much more than at any time previous. I had not warmed the engine before draining it, though.

You have a valve at the bottom of the oil tank that is dirty / stuck open... Time for a little investigation and repair work. |
