One thing you didn't mention if you're doing considerable dirt riding that requires standing up. I personally couldn't ride with the wing seats and stand comfortably.

No im going to be mostly on the road. I like to have the option.....

The Suzuki gel seat is pretty good it's one of the better seats I've used.Never used my Alaska leather cover on my strom didn't need it however it's been great on my other rides.

The stock wee seat is pretty bad; the gel seat is slightly better and tolerable with a bead rider. When my gel seat fell apart, I sent it to seat concepts for a rebuild. I am very happy with the seat concepts with the carbon fiber cover and standard density foam. I am a long-legged 6' and about 180+ lbs in riding gear. My only suggestion to make it better would be to offer a taller version.

I'm a Russell fan. I've had them on three bikes, now. For me they are a bit of a hassle when stopping and stopped (I am 5'6"). I have to slide up on the seat at stops in order to get a toe down. I still have the oem seat and use it for the 70 mile commute and local use.

If I'm going to be on the bike for several hours, I switch to the Russell. Oddly enough, the Russell isn't that comfortable, as in plush. It feels firm and unforgiving. Still, I can sit on it all day with no butt discomfort. I've never been on one of the thicker Russell's made for more normal sized people. I imagine they are a more plush.



BTW, I bought this seat from a fellow on Craig's List for $200. Remarkably, he happened to be the same height and weight as me. He had the seat made and had only ridden it for about 100 miles. He didn't like it and put it on Craig's List.

I'm just the opposite.

The Corbin is very nice. I still have to take a break every now and then, but that's my riding style anyway. My butt is no longer the limiting factor in my riding.

The custom Rick Mayer seat just didn't fit me after two attempts. A custom seat is a good idea if you can do a ride-in. For me, the mail-order custom just didn't work out.

I also own a Suzuki Gel seat, which is pretty good for me. I added a heating element for colder weather. I still get monkey butt with it, but it's lasted me quite a few miles, so I can't complain. A Sargent I owned was comparable to the Suzuki Gel in my view, but considering the cost difference, I sold the Sargent.

I vote for the Rick Mayer Cycle seat.
While not every seat will work for everybody, Rick does a great job to make it fit you.
Besides one on my Wee, (it took the pressure off sensitive areas), I have one on my Triumph 800 XC and the wife and I both have Rick Mayer seats on our DR 650s. With the Rick Mayer seats, we now can ride 350-400 mile days without any discomfort. Of note, after 18 months, her riding style changed a bit and the seat didn't work. We went up there for a seat for my DR and have her seat seat rebuilt. 18 months later..........Rick did a great job redoing her seat to her new style, built mine and from his place, we took off for a 200 mile afternoon ride.
Rick's dad was the guy behind the Russel Daylong too. Rick is an Iron Butt rider and a licensed nurse so he has knowledge from both sides of the pants.
You can get the seat as narrow, wide, low or high as you need or want.
Just my 2, or maybe 5 cents worth.

I have a friend that does apolstry and he thinks we can take foam away in some spots and add foam in others to customize it to my own skinny no havine ass. It is going to be the cheapest and more enjoyable for me to do, i like the idea of being able to help. If i dont get in the way........
I will keep everybody who is interested posted and show some before and after pics, if i can figure out how.

+ 1 Seat Concepts firm foam. Don't think for a moment that beacause you weigh in at 160 the firm foam is not good. Firm support equals comfort. Try a Corbin and really see what firm foam is. I have both a Corbin on my Honda and a Seat Concepts on my Vee. Both good seats. One costs half as much and is not far off in comfort
