Laugh Lockdown Loop

I have joked often that I am on Lockdown with folks asking me to do overnighters or far off travels...it's a good Lockdown...it's Baby Lockdown Wife is 31 weeks with our first...so, I am getting rides like this in while I can...Up a little early for a couple hundred miles of twisting asphalt, light gravel and some nice views.

Start on my favorite paved road around...Rt33 through Los Padres National Forest from Ventura to Ventucopa, it is most excellent Not much traffic today, felt as though I had the place all to myself

Love the way tunnels come out on video

TURN SOUND DOWN it's all wind whistle

Little ways pass the tunnels I took a quick stop to check out the Smallest Post Office.

Another stop to click a few pics of what I just rode

While taking a break I noticed this nice memorial..looks like a soul I could get along with

The Chumash Indians left some rock drawings here as well

I did get behind a parade of chrome cruisers for a bit, they were in no rush and I shouldn't have been either...none the less they waved me pass on one of the straights.

Carrizo Plain

Fueled up in Ventucopa and grabbed a bag of Pistachios before heading to Carrizo Plain via Elk Horn road...

Chromed cruisers caught up to me at the store, they were yacking about how cold their hands were...I couldn't help but notice...they had no fingers on their gloves

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrizo_Plain

Love Carrizo Plain, desolate, wide open beauty, didn't see one other person or vehicle the whole 3 hours I spent riding through it.

Pozo to Hi-Mountain

Onto Pozo Road, easy dirt with lots of nice view points.

checked out campground

Not a big fan of campgrounds, mainly due to things like this

food left out brings bugs and critters

fires left burning bring down lots of forest...

guess it's not really campgrounds I dislike, but people huh?

Pozo to Hi-Mountain

Back on pavement..I love the terrain and scenery of farm / wine country in California

Climb up and up...it was very hazy, need to come back when the wind blows some of the haziness away

Lopez Lake down below

not sure what this is??? Chime in if you do? Photo was taken from Hi-Mountain lookout rd.

another great reason to come back with the dirt bike

Ride home was uneventful...just drone down the 101 southbound...felt great to get out, gotta get it while I can...

I never realized that Tarantulas were in central California until I was out there on a moto trip about 8 years ago on a backroad between SLO and Monterey when I saw something crossing the road. Seriously, my first thought was "Aww, someones pet Tarantula escaped" and then I realized that was probbaly a really dumb thought and that it was wild. Gets kinda chilly near the coast so it just surprised me as I thought they were more hot weather creatures. Just goes to show how little I know. Spiders don't really bother me but don't think I would really want to wake up and find one of these sitting on my head in my tent in the morning. Damn these things are big. Ever have a problem with them carrying away small children (sorta like dingos in OZ)?

Thanks for sharing. Love me some California trip pics.

Well, that sure is a nice place to ride, and without the crowds to boot. Thanks for providing the Wikpedia link (saved me from googling) of the Carrizo Plain. Not having traveled to California much, other than by plane, I wasn't familiar with the area you were riding at all. Lot more empty spaces than I would have imagined down yonder.

You took some really nice photo's and video's too. One of them I enjoyed was one of the first photo's with the hill/mountains covered in the scrub, I assume Chaparral or something similar. And for me the video going through the tunnels was neat.

Oh, and my first encounter with Tarantulas was when I was in the Army in Texas. Saw them crossing the road just like you, and from a distance I thought they were turtles they were that big, just like you videoed.

Thanks for sharing.

You know you miss the paved glory that is Hampton Roads.

Nice report! I hope everything goes well with the new baby. Being a Dad is the finest thing I've ever done, so I hope you enjoy it as well.

Tarantulas were all over the roads...I stopped for the first one. Very cool and nope I didn't splat not a one of em...

When I was a kid growing up in New Mexico we'd ride certain places where these things were thick. Even though we were blazing all around on MX bikes like idiots I don't think I ever hit one - they are FAST and can jump a long way! Cool critters...
