Disposing of old video game consoles.

So we have an old XBox360 and a Wii, both of which we're going to donate to a local charity (battered women's shelter, since they often have their kids with them). Both boxes required us to set up some kind of online account in order to use them fully.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the best way to insure that any personal information on those devices is removed before we pass them along to their next life?

Thanks!

I think there is a format option under system settings and storage. That is probably the safest way to make sure all data is removed.

Do you have a lot of kids games for them? Both systems have tons of great ones out there for really cheap so if you're willing to put any more money into them I'd look on gamestop's website and there will probably be a few good games (go by high user ratings) for 1-3 bucks/each.

We've got a bunch of stuff for both of them. Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones, all the usual Wii games.

And thank you. I'm looking forward to passing them along.

Thanks. We never play them, so it doesn't make much sense to hang onto them.

If you're a little kid that's been yanked out of your home, I'm thinking that having some video games to keep you occupied while mom gets your life sorted out is a good thing.

Damned cool of you to think of this.

Heck, kids would love any playing games on any system--beats looking at the walls, ya know!

Just a quick related plug, there's a charity called Child's Play that provides these things for both sick kids and those in domestic violence shelters:
