Well, there weren't too many but here is one of my favorite American 80s cars. The mighty GNX.

That's just a Grand National, still a nice car.

I got a ride in a GNX back in the day, at the time I remember being very impressed with the performance. I bet a new V6 Camaro would run with a stock one now.

Two words:
Stage.
Motor.

Try daily driven in the 9's.

Well, since they were supposed to be a 13sec car with a factory power up kit I doubt it. But if a stock V6 Camaro will do even 15s I would LOVE to see that!

My two favorite cars I've ever owned were super 80's

1. 86 Buick Grand National (with modified wastegate, alcohol injection, other low-buck tricks. ran mid 11's, which was awesome for a 20 year old!)

2. 87 Pontiac Fiero - you may laugh, but lots of fun to drive, and after I spun a rod bearing in the stock V-6, we swapped in a PFI v8 from a 1989 cadillac and had a 300 lb ft launch-monster.

Regardless of what you think of them.... they sold a ton of them... and they where ahead of the times. Even by todays standards I think they look good. The number #1 car to use in most exotic kit replicas.

The engines where reliable... but they lacked power for that type of car. If they just would have dropped a more high performance engine in these things... they would have really been awsome.

#EDIT : crap the above poster beat me to it.... the bastage.

muahahaha!

seriously though, one of the most fun cars I ever owned. Install a v8? ok - took 8 hours. Drive around with no body panels? you can do that because it's a space frame. After the v8, driving in the rain got a little more interesting. It wasn't poor balance, it just broke rear end traction constantly due to the new found torque at like 800 rpm :P

Hmm, the fastest time for a stock V6 Camaro I can find on the web is a 14.2, slower than I expected. Well, they are a bit heavy for a pony car.

Stock GNX is a low to high 13 second car, depending on whose test you are reading. Hell, I've seen low 14's but that must have been driven by a dolt. Or on top of a mountain.

I remember reading that the 276 hp rating for the GNX was underrated so as not to make the 'vette look bad, and was more like 300hp, new V6 Camaros are rated at 305+ depending on the year, figured it would be closer than that.

Oh well.

Best seats of any car I've been in (not necessarily looking, but in comfort and support).

I am still smitten with these. I debate heavily between an E28 or E34 M5, and a 911sc or carrera for my next toy car.

There is a stock (save for power up factory kit) up here at a mile high at our dragstrip that consistently runs a 12.3.
