Nice thread, I'm still trying to decide on which guards to install.

I did read that in order to use the HDB guards, that they require the use of the ROX risers.

Are the stock bar ends threaded? How hard are they to remove. I have The Acerbis installed and they worked OK with the stock bar ends. I want to redo them this winter, just wanted a little heads up if they are a bitch to remove.

Stopped by dealership today and added the Adventure tank bag to my order....

Looked at a set of Givi Trekker luggage a friend had on a 955 tiger.

A nice thing abut the Tusk D-Flex Handguards/Spoilers is that the spoilers are replaceable for 30 bucks if they get all scratched up.

I have the twisted throttle barkbusters on my 955i Tiger and they were on my XB12 Ulysses. I went down quite a bit in the dirt on the Uly and the Barkbusters held up well and earned their money.

Cool. That looks like it should protect everything. Are the upper bars in the way if maintenance access?

That's my Tiger pictured there; I'm really liking the Tusk handguards. They're rock solid, and with the large spoilers installed, they actually do a great job of keeping wind/weather off my hands.

By the way, the big bar adapter isn't really required. The Tusk handguards can be installed without it with a little fiddling.

I tanked it hard on the Acerbis Rallye guards, and they saved my controls. Rugged stuff. But those HDB guards look pretty cool. When I do it again, I'll be getting those.

Just FYI the Acerbis set up that I have is not just the straight acerbis rally pro guards. I also have the added wind protection spoiler that attaches to the top. And there are several versions of Acerbis.

Surprisingly they are not...I was worried about same, but since first time (with slightly bad bars) I installed them myself I found that panels indeed can be removed without removing bars at all, everything else just open, no interference.
However, to install them you have to remove front side panels - otherwise it is pain in the a...e to access front upper mounts system.
If you ever try to install those - take note, that you will need loooong extender with 14 mm head to access front engine mounts nuts from "opposite" side across bike. In this case you do not need to remove tank etc., just side panels and rad side panels.

Mark you had to do some grinding correct? Anything else you can tell us about the install?

I actually did use the big bar adapter on the throttle side, but obviously the orange Tiger you have pictured in the first post did not. If I had done more fiddling I could have worked out the same thing.

I did do a little grinding with a Dremel inside the regular bar clamp for the clutch side handguard, just to facilitate being able to mount it a little further down the handlebar. I didn't have to take off much metal though.

Doc D - Thanks for the tutorial. VERY helpful. Do any of those after market handguards appear to accomodate a Kaoko throttle control. seems Touratech would (with less protection?) but not sure about the others. Trade offs I suppose - but use my Kaoko quite a bit on the long rides. Thanks, j
