What kept me away from the SD the first time around was the lack of ABS and that the nearest dealer was 30 miles away. No, not that far but still a PITA.

The 1190 e-package definitely hits the right buttons and it would be a darn nice replacement to my 1100 EVO. The idea of another 50 HP over the Duc...yeah. I like that!

30 miles?

Don't ever move to WV.

My close dealer is 40 miles away.
But they suck, it gets farther away from there.

The closest dealer to me is 120 miles away. I would not give the distance a second thought if I had the coin for one of these beasts.

Looks good, but the guy riding that S1000 wasn't pushing it too hard, i.e. shifting at 12k. I've ridden the S1000 at the track and it goes pretty good at 12k, but between 12 and 15k, it's like you hit "hyperspace"!?!

Yeah that S1000RR was either braking early for the Duke to pass again, or just plain getting outridden. You could tell the 1190 didn't have the poke of the S1000 every time that the Beemer's rider actually did put his wrist into it.

Yup - rider, not bike. The guy on the BMW didn't have such great lines either, but looks like it was just the KTM dude beating him on the brakes.

The guy on the SD is Jeremy McWilliams, a former GP racer. He can make just about anybody look like a novice. That said the BMW was hanging pretty close in the corners but like you pointed out it could leave the SD at will in the straights. Given the choice I'd much rather have the SD as my own personal bike but with equal riders I'm sure the BMW would dominate the SD on the track.

Yeah you could tell McWillaims was good, damn good, he was hitting every corner with the with the tail damn near in air wagging around and sticking every apex perfectly. I didn't know it was a MotoGP caliper rider.

Not saying that Duke isn't going to be a superb bike, just saying I doubt its going to beat an S1000RR in its natural environment (i.e. track) given equal riders.

...I'd buy the Super Duke first myself.

Last night the consensus was that it was McWilliams but this morning I'm hearing that he denies it was actually him on the 1290 in that video. I agree though whoever it was appeared to know how to ride quite well.

On the 1290, I think it will be similar to the current 990 model in that it will be a fantastic street bike that can still perform well on the track and be a lot of fun. The S1000RR is a WSBK racer with turn signals and I'd much rather have an SD for street duty. If I had to make my living racing motorcycles I'd want the S10000RR.

Fair point, but how many riders would be quicker around a racetrack short-shifting an S1000RR rather than trying to redline it in every gear?

My guess: the overwhelming majority of street and track-day riders.

The vid demonstrates fairly convincingly that the KTM has enough poke to run with the big boys on a circuit that size, given that rider skill levels are merely well above average.

Sure, you'd pick the Beemer for the World Superbike Championship ... if you were good enough to avoid being lapped.

As for the rest of us ... that KTM sure looks like good fun, and has plenty of speed.

Looks like KTM has a Countdown Timer running as well as a teaser Vid on the new website, apparently we're just days away from something....
