Will there be beer checkpoints along the gnarly singletrack?

You know, just in case one needs to ease the pain from taking a header?

Looking forward to meeting and riding with some of you FFs.

Maybe they'll supply "Beer Medics" along the trail?

SLAP Pre-Ride

Yesterday was a beautiful day so I thought I'd meander down to Byrd's via a variety of back roads and trails to check conditions out. I rode mostly to the north and northwest of where we'll be camping, up around Whiterock, Fly Gap, Shores Lake, etc. Generally, the roads are in very good condition. Unless it rains though, be ready for plenty of dust. Roads looks like this...

The road graders are out and you can run into lots of loose conditions. Be cautious on corners too as some have very little traction and will be easy to overshoot. There are some DEEP potholes with water in them in spots that could mean an endo if hit wrong. A few hazards are worth the view though...

Forest roads and trails are quite variable. In spots there are mud holes like this that can be quite deep...

Don't do what I did or you'll end up like this...

Since I was riding by myself (stupid!) it took me about an hour or more to extricate myself and I was on a "little" bike. I was in the sticks with no cell coverage (ATT sucks) and many miles from help. Moral of the story for SLAP: don't leave riders behind or they could have an expression on their face like this, or worse...

I wasn't a happy camper.

Oh, I saw my first bear yesterday and plenty of scat too, so those critters are out and active.

Hope to see you all in the coming days and hope you have a great time in our neck of the woods.

I knew I should've called you before I rode yesterday Doc. I would have let you lead into that mud hole. Plus, I rode a lot of Madison county roads you probably know like the back of your hand!

Hmm. Looked at the weather. Have to get up in the morning and decide if I want to ride down there or not. Don't want to melt my sweet self in the rain.
