Hi Joe,

Nice to see you on ADVrider! I've followed your travels for a few years now and seen two of the Dia-shows. I was even at your house with Walter Colebatch last December to drop off a DVD when we picked up our bikes from Husaberg, but we missed each other!

Looking forward to this trip and seeing how the 1190 does. Is the route going to be very different than your 2004 (?) Africa trip? I want to ride to Cape Town next year so I might have to ask you for some advice when you are back if that's ok.

Liebe Gre,
Lukas

By the way Joe Pichler, and anyone else who doesn't speak German but wants to read his website, Google will translate the website for you.

Just go to Google translate (http://translate.google.com/)

Then copy and paste the url of his website (http://www.josef-pichler.at/) into the box on the left side of the screen. Google will automatically detect the language of the website and a link to the translated version will appear on the box on the right side of the screen.

You now have an English (or whatever language you chose) version of Joe's website. http://translate.google.com/translat....at%2F&act=url

Only Joe can tell us how accurate the translation is, but the English reads well, so I would assume it is at least pretty darn accurate.

Cheers!

Several broken ribs and problem with the shoulder are the results. He cant ride a motorcycle within the next weeks. But Im glad that not more happend to him.
Damn. I met Flavio on the road in Ethiopia, quite the guy! I'm glad he's ok though. Is he the one who's arranged your trip to Erta Ale (love the pic).

On the road again, and of course as often as possible on that tracks, where there arent many cars around.

The route is different in many parts.
Like South Sudan, east coast of lake turkana, Mosambique and of course Madagascar.

You can ask me when I'm back in Salzburg, no problem.
Joe

Joe, since you are now clearly on the road, with red mud on the tires, how about some early first impressions of the 1190R?

The same tyres I've used on the 950/990 Adventure.

I'll also change the rims to the same rims with I have used he last years.

This is 2,50 inch on the rear and 1,85 on the front.

I've been yust riding 300 km with the new bike, so its hard to say how many miles you can go on one tank.
But a lot more then with the old one. In normal conditions I think it should be around 400 km or even more, but we'll see.
I will also be following your report! Interested in the 1190. The range sounds very good.

I also like the Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires, have them in the same size as you plan to use on my RXV 550
