Should I even think about a 2002 Ural Tourist
Never owned a rig but would like to try without spending $15K on a new one.

I have almost two years on a Ural and am really enjoying it. I would suggest you check the price on the bike and being an 2002 it may need more love then a newer one but I am lead to believe that they can be good rides if your use is not freeway flyer. I sent a pm to you. If you are not a member you may want to become one at SovietSteeds and ask them.

I've owned 9 Urals in the past 10 years and know just a little bit about them. The only year Ural I'd shy away from is a 2002. That was the first year of the 750 engine therefore nearly everything has changed so there are no longer parts available for a 2002 year engine. The heads and block are different so if anything goes wrong with it you will have to upgrade the whole engine. That said if the price is right and you know an upgrade may be in it's future then go for it. Last I heard a new 750 engine was about $4000.

Thanks to everyone for your input!
Sitting in my driveway right now is a very very clean black 2002 Ural Tourist delivered by the PO at a very good price. Will post a pic or two in the daylight! |

I can't believe you US guys are paying such high prices for Urals... here, they're usually looked down upon, budget-version stock for choppers and cruisers. Maybe I'm missing something, but I've seen them go for ~50,000 rubles in great shape, which is just around $2000... can't be much more to get them new.
Then again, I know nothing. |
