I never understood the use of the term "custom" to describe mass produced bikes. Or mass produced anything for that matter. Oh well... not my thing but I'm sure plenty of people will like it.

I'm mostly offended by the fact that you can get almost any cruiser with factory matching bags, but about zero standards and sportbikes come that way.

That's because cruiser riders want it all styled to go with the bike... looks are most important... And the cost is factored into the price of the bike.

The rest of us are looking for function over form.. plus we have several aftermarket choices.

I don't care what they look like. Cases keyed with the ignition that mount tight to the subframe, without an additional ten pounds of bracketry, would be worth it.

I get by with my aftermarket stuff.

Looks sloppy and unfinished. Maybe that's the point so they can sell you extras later?

At a recent UK show I attended, the Victory stand was busier than HD's effort.

The headlight looks, er,

Gloss black may have been a better choice of color.

For the price I'd rather have a street glide.

Not that my opinion matters, but obviously the reason cruisers are so popular here is because people buy the damn things. Remember the Kawasaki Zephyr? The Kawasaki W650? ZRX1200? Those are just a few choices of bikes that one maker brought here and they languished on the floor. Cruisers, they don't sit on showroom floors.

NO business will survive making stuff that no one buys! Duh.

Another great example is the Pontiac Aztek of motorcycles, the Suzuki B-King. One freakin' year, that's all it took for Suzuki to see that those ugly motorcycles didn't sell, Some of them remained on the showroom floor for 2 years or more. They cut their losses and didn't bring it back.

It's been said many times before, the USA buys motorcycles for fun and recreation, the rest of the world buys motorcycles for transportation.

Hey...they're marketing to a lifestyle. An image. And if they can stay in business and sell plenty of motorcycles, more power to them!

That don't mean I'm going to be trading in my Beemer to get one of those anytime soon!
