That is a good deal. I would really like to get the adventure bike, but I think the standard with abs is going to have to be my budget and slowly add the goodies. Argh, that last price I was quoted on the adventure is pretty good.....

Just look at a pic on Suzuki site and you'll see them. I love my Wee
Looked into the cases again and that first dealership has the wrong cases on that bike. Weird. That dealership doesn't have a very good rep in town, but it's always the place to start because it's the only one we have. Onward.

I paid 10k OTD for a '12 Adventure with the top box, all fees, tax, a couple oil filters, and my tag good through 2014.

This is interesting. What did the cases look like?

I don't remember if they had the reflector on the side, said Suzuki or had the line of rivets along the bottom. You opened them and the hinge was plastic as well as the rest of the case. I'll look on line and see if I can find anything after market that matches. I'm very curious now - on a mission!

the cases are made by GIVI for suzuki and are metal on the explorer with black plastic corner protectors. Freight cost to the dealer is around $300 and setup time and pdi is 4 hours. FFP from suzuki is usually 120 days after that the dealer pays, Margin is usually between 8% to 10% out of this comes operation costs, commissions and any other expenses. Depending on the volume of sales the dealer may get and additional rebate back from Suzuki but this is not always the case. Most dealers would not be able to survive by just selling bikes but make ends meet though the sale of gear and accessories and even that is being eroded with online sales.

I want the dealer to make money on the bike, I'm not trying to do a complete lowball, but the sale price doesn't seem all that great once you add in the "set up" fee of $1160. The salesman also told me that they get a dealer kickback and they would either sell me the bike at msrp with the $1160 or at $8000 plus the $1160.

Hmmm, I think I just answered my own question. Pass, sell my Rebel and look for a good deal on a non-adventure v-strom.

Thanks all - sometimes you just need to bounce stuff off other people and verify what you're thinking!
Sell the Rebel???????????? Good lord man,not that! They have sold about a jillion Stroms,1 will turn up.
3400.00 or less will bring a good one.

I was just in the Suzuki shop by me. They are having a big sale. 2012 DL650 ADVenture $8630.00+ tx and lic.
You would not pay tx and lic here just after you got it home. The one that had the price on it had the hard cases, and crash bars. I don't know about bringing in a bike to Kalifornia. Don't know if the Wee is made in a 49 state version or not. Sale ends tomorrow. Something about mfg kicking in on this sale. The dealer is Grand Prix Motorsports
on County Line Rd. Centennial, Colorado.

That's a good deal, unfortunately you have to buy a california edition due to emissions laws. My local dealer is getting a kick back from Suzuki to make up for their sale price.

I am probably the only one who will ever admit this on this forum, but, I love my Rebel!!! We went on a 4200 mile trip this summer (for a shameless plug, the trip is posted under "The Travels of the Wee Beastie")

I'm thinking about waiting until 2012s start showing up used. They changed the geometry of the bike to a more comfortable (to me!) riding position starting in 2012 - I'll give it a year or so and they'll be some people out there who really thought they wanted to ride.

That's the hard part of negotiating - you want the dealer to make a reasonable profit, but you also want to get as good of a price as possible. What most annoys me about my local dealership is that their setup fees are excessive. I can see $300 for shipping and $300 to $400 for set up, they're almost $500 above that. The salesman told me they will get a rebate back on that bike. If they had knocked off that $500 they still would have made a decent profit and a sale.

I may have to go back to the dealership to satisfy my continuing curiosity about the cases.
