Next multi-day ride discussed is the new CoBDR. It looks like that may be the in the summer of 2014. 2013 will be more short rides around the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Or, trailer back to Moab to stay there for a few days and do several shorter day loops. The Moab area has some absolutely awesome scenery.
Teach me to ask My wife had similar symptoms on New Years eve, her gallbladder went in the trash today.

Bike choice

Were you both happy with your bikes or do you both agree that a small bike like the 250 is better for this trip? Great report - thanks.

I was extremely happy with the way my 690 performed. The only place I could say that I might have wanted my 450EXC was riding into and out of Bruneau Canyon in southeastern Idaho. That was steep, rocky, hot and narrow in places. The most intense 6 or 7 miles of our entire 2300 mile ride.

ditto - my wr250r (~320lb) was the perfect bike for my needs. My dirty bike (ktm 350exc) would not have been as comfortable and the extra clearance (or HP) really wasn't needed for the route. UTBDR is all doable on bigger (+400lb) dual sports.

Only bike related issue encountered on the entire trip was the 690r ran out of gas just as we pulled into Green River, about 150 route miles from Moab. The factory gas tank on the 690r doesn't have great range.

That's why I carry a 1.8 gallon bladder. Just in case!
