Wreck repair kit?
So last year when I was doing the Trans Lab I ran into a guy who had helped a fellow ADV'r out after a crash. This gentleman had assembled a kit which enabled him using small blocks of wood and wire to reattach the crashed riders broken clutch perch so he could continue on his trip....a very well done field expedient repair! So my question is how many of you have a kit like this and what do you have in it, pictures appreciated. I am not talking about a general tool kit. I was thinking that safety wire pliers might be part of that kit but they are pretty bulky. I also found this tool on the Aerostitch site which would seem to have promise. http://www.aerostich.com/clamptite-tool.html
![]() I have thought about this for over a year now and figured it was time to act. |

I've got the same tool.
http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/pag...52&cat=1,43456 Works great and way cheaper than Aerostich. (less than 1/2 price!!) This and hose clamps, duct tape, small vice grips and zip ties would get you out of most problems.

one advantage to safety wire pliers is that you can use them as a roach clip in the middle of baja DAMHIK

One of the best field tools out there. Once you have tried it you will not leave it behind.

Here is the official website for the tool. http://www.clamptitetools.com/shop.html I will probably buy the stainless version which is $10.00 more expensive but I don't have to worry about it rusting. Keep the ideas coming...

I carry zip ties and duct tape and stainless tie wire in my kit along with needle nose pliers.

hose clamps, safety wire, vicegrips, and....
a stick of the 2 part epoxy that comes in a small log. cures in 5 minutes to rock hard. I have cured broken side covers with that stuff... one made 4 years & was still working when I sold it. BTW, they also make some that sets under water too

In addition to the above things listed (wire/epoxy putty/etc) I include a few small pieces of annealed to dead soft aluminum, about 1"X2" and roughly 18G with the edges rounded and smoothed. These can be easily bent by hand and formed to cover a hole- and held in place with the epoxy putty and/or wire.
