Here's a couple of my forever bike. I bought and sold at least six bikes since I brought this one home in '07. I am pretty sure I'll keep it till I can't ride a liter bike any more.
![]() ![]() Here's a couple from a 9 day, 3,700 mi stroll to Colorado and back this summer ![]()

The first ride I ever did on a "big" bike was on the back of an R90. Ever since that day, I wanted a boxer BMW. It was like a spaceship compared to my two-stroke KE125.
Bought a black '02 R1150R and liked it a lot. Very versatile and comfortable bike, and I do miss that boxer motor now that it is gone. I suspect I'll have another. I love the old airheads. Those servo brakes were great in terms of operation, but man, what a pain in the !@# to work on. The $2k replacement cost for the pump scared me, along with lack of nearby dealer support (both of our Kawi dealers are gone now, too). I saw a deal on an FJR and didn't hesitate. FJR felt like a bit of a step backwards in handling and braking (and weight), but a huge step up in power and wind protection. Harder to work on but needs less frequent work.

I too own an Airhead too. 77 R100/7 with 91K miles. Only 1K belongs to me. What a competent bike for a vintage! The 35 yo bike has a mid-range roll-on like a freight train!

That's a Rich's Custom. Somebody on here set up a group buy a couple years ago. Came out great for a non ride in job. He built it up an inch and a half and used the up grade leather. I really like it. Check him out.

What I do miss about the 12R (to stay with the thread!) is the big boost of effortless power for passing. It always surprised me when I had to jet past a slowpoke on the coast highways. Just blink and you're past 'em, without ever needing to downshift. Great whacking gobs of torque.
