Day 1 is 350 miles from Tacoma to Clarkston WA -- MAP
Day 2 is 350 miles to Helena MT -- MAP
Day 3 is 350 miles to Miles City WY -- MAP
Day 4 is 340 miles to Sturgis -- MAP

1390 miles

Anybody want to meet up along the way, PM me.

DRONE:

I'll be at the Mill Inn in Sheridan on 6/24. Not looking to share the room but maybe see you there? You should be able to recognize my rig.

On your return, suggest you go from Idaho Falls to Boise on US 20 via Arco and The Craters of the Moon Nat'l Park. Fascinating place and doesn't take long to see it all. CotM is where the hot spot now under Yellowstone was a few years ago.

From Boise try US26 through Vale to John Day [great roads around John Day] If you are in a hurry you can the take 395 north to Pendleton. Another choice is OR19 through Spray & Fossil to Condon, then 206 to Wasco and 97 to Biggs Junction. If you do that, after crossing the Columbia take a couple of mile detour to the east on WA 14 to see a full-scale, geographically accurate, replica of Stonehenge.

Safe travels, and see you in Sturgis,

Duncan

Changed my route a bit, Duncan. Looks like I'll be in Miles City on 6/24.

3250 total miles in 10 days with a 3-night layover at the Elkview Campground in Sturgis. I hope that the outfit, Kirby, and I are ready. Actually, I'm pretty sure the rig is ready. And, frankly, Kirby is in great shape. The weak link, then, is the man in the mirror.

50+ degree temp range

Just checked the 10-day weather forecast. Leaving tomorrow on the outbound leg, there's gonna be a couple of days with morning temps around 50f (10c), then on the homeward leg I'll be seeing temps over 105f (40c) in the afternoons. That's quite a swing! I can regulate myself OK, but for Kirby's sake on those hot days I'm gonna have to get started around dawn then quit early afternoon. Just like me, he's from the Pacific Northwest so we're not really used to temps higher than 80f. I'll probably make him ride under a 3/4 tonneau cover to keep the sun off his head when it gets over 90f. I've got topo maps loaded into my Montana, so I'll be able to find creeks and streams for him to cool off in. Hell, I might roll around a little in a cool creek or two myself!

Anybody got any other ideas for staying cool?
