These two 2-wheel drive units give a lesson in trail etiquette...

That crunch at 0:09 is them tagging each other.

Without the necessary momentum neither of them made the climb as the 1-wheel drive with the bald tire in the first video did.

How important is 2 wheel drive ?.
I have my 2 wheel drive pulled down to do some work on it.
On a ride yesterday 100 km from home i got bogged .
No way would this have stopped me with the 2 wheel drive working .

Lucky i have a winch to help me out as the river sand was to deep to get going again .

I had to hook the rope onto this large log and 30seconds later we were on our way again .

As i tell people that ask me . 2 wheel drive is not needed 99% of the time just like on there 4x4 cars. But it is great to have when you do need it .

I am impressed with your rig, great build. Did you build the front fork setup or did you buy it, if you bought it how much does something like that cost?

Thank you .

The leading link was originally from a vulcan 1500 and was in a very sad state when i bought it .But it was all made with twin wall tubing .

I did get some quotes to get one built a few years ago ,but at around $2,600 dollars, i could not afford one.
I have had to change most of it to fit the gsa with a lot of trial and error as there was not a lot of 1150 bmw around with a Leading link when i started to make it .
The best thing i did with the front end was to get some good quality shocks, now it is easy to adjust the compression and damping for the road conditions .

Honestly, I can't see any reason whatsoever to own a URAL, that only has 1WD. If you are going to limit yourself, why let that be the biggest limitation. The 1WD unit would simply never work for me based on where I live. I use the 4WD system in my Jeep Wrangler about 1% of the time. Probably the same amount that I will use 2WD on the URAL Patrol that I'm getting ready to buy. When I need it, the 2WD will be there!

All this talk about 2wd. It's gonna be interesting this summer 'cause I'm gonna take my 1wd GS rig to some challenging places and I'm looking forward to see if I will be able to get through the sand and mud, or will I have to break out the winch. Stay tuned for my postings like around September!
