Would you pay 5k for a 08 WR250x?

This is a showroom new model, as in new but almost 5 years old now. Local dealer has one, and is asking $4999 + fees for it. Only $1000 off msrp when new model. Any thoughts?

seems like a lot to me...but the used market for these is around 4k to 4.5k, and their slim pickens too.

I totally enjoy my 08.
But would be glad to sell it for 5k & NO BS fees.

That is way out of range.

But one is born every minute. Good Luck

Nope, not when you can buy a new terra 650 for 6000 or a new Nc700 for 7000.

The Terra is close to 7K.

Given that their no longer sold, you should probably snap it up as a collectors item!

But, more seriously, here's 08-11 USED prices from the MCN summer price guide. You can interpret them however you want.

2011 5135
2010 4615
2009 4250
2008 3735

There's little difference over the years other than color. There's a list of model year differences of the R model at http://rickramsey.net/WR250Rmods.htm.

I wouldn't want to trust five year old tires, that's approaching or at maximum shelf life. Scheduled maintenance calls for new brake hoses at 4 years but it's likely not something most people do. I'd wonder about all the hoses, not just the brakes.

If you really want an X, and have no desires for an X and R combo, then the only other way to get one is to buy used, or buy an R and shell out nearly a grand for a supermoto wheel setup.

If you want a street only 250 you might consider a Ninja or CBR. 2012s of both can be had for $3600ish.

I wouldn't do it.

While those bikes look good, I already have a heavy 650 Versys (for sale), and these weigh over 400 lbs. Ideally looking for a lightweight bike that can be dirt capable too. Considering the WR250R model as well...but prefer the street wheels of the X.

If you were to fill out your profile, we'd know what country you're in. In Canada or Australia, $5k would be a pretty good deal, in the US, prob not.

If the height of the X is a big factor & you want brand new I would say go for it. Or pay another $1000 + for a 2012/13 R. Or buy used & save maybe $1000+? Life has lots of choices.

Are they honoring the factory warranty? If so, maybe if I wanted a brand new one bad enough.
