34 HP at the wheel, 420 pounds on the scale...rode it to Death Valley, tires wore out eventually. No miles on the truck:

Yup. When it takes me 4 hours to get to my favorite riding area, and ive worked all day friday. Im not gonna ride my 525 to get there. Thats just fucking stupid. Im not riding across Dallas in rush hour traffic to haul ass up I-75 for two hours and then another 70 miles of the most deer infested two-lane know to man. Only to put in 80-100miles of never ending creekbed and bowling ball singletrack rocks on saturday. Then do a half day of the same sunday and ride back to DFW. I understand that you guys can ride good shit straight out of town or even your back yards; but not all of us can. Its not feasable in my neck of the woods.

Thetefore I (and my riding partners) dont have to make the compromises in "maintenance" or "streetability", or tires. Or in weight. So we ride the best bikes for the job and the plates are just a formality

I like riding dirt. With friends. The trails I ride require me to be fresh, with good alertness and control.

Folks that brag "I rode to the trail" are still bragging. About what, I'm not sure though.

I'd rather save my strength, tires and laughs for the trails, then dust up my nuts, fire up a cigar, load up the bikes and drive home.


If anyone thinks that makes me less of a rider than the next guy, that's your problem, not mine. I sleep just fine at night.

Look up the 22c mod for the klr. Makes the bike much easier to start and gives more grunt throughout the range.

Yep. Two different tools for different jobs. I'm one of the lucky ones, all the trails are within 40sec ride from my garage. I can either do small 50km loops, or 600km loops. All from my garage. I love where I live.

I didn't get involved in this thread because I seen it go south quickly, and won't get involved with foolishness.
Any bike has its pros and cons, they are all awsome compared to cages and its what most of us live for, and its about alot more than the machine, its the lifestyle.
Advrider is the premier and most active motorcycle forum in the world, and we are all members of and represent it.
We should be supporting and encouraging each other regardless of the direction each goes within the community.
If you are not doing that, then you should be ashamed !!!
We can all educate each other and disagree with each other intelligently, and when a fool comes aboard and starts spreading cancer then ignore him and maybe he will check himself and make adjustments.
