Why 2 into 1? (950/990)

That's my simple question what are the reasons to switch to a 2 into 1 exhaust?

1. Weight?
2. Sound?
3. Power?
4. Room for other accessories?
5. What am I missing?

Curious especially about those with some miles on the change...

Cheers
Dave

at least on the 950 Super Enduro most of the 2-1 systems I see are when people want to add an auxilliary gas tank for more range. the stock tank is just over 3 gallons, so that doesn't get you far.

right now there are three options: safari tank (8 gallons, $800), the new ADV tank that the guy in CA is making (not done yet, about 5 gallons I think, about the same price (600-800??), or the 2-1 with the 2 gallon side tank.

1.

5. Was cheaper to only buy one after market can and covert my mid pipe for 2-1

1, 4, 3 and you forgot another one and that's the heat from the OEM cans.

Added an ADVtank. Did not want/ need a Safari tank. Would go with CJDesigns as it's built to last. Love the extra fuel at the rear. No noticeable power difference at my speeds. It does lighten up the tail end when rear tank is dry. I'm very satisfied with it!

If you already have 2 aftermarket cans like I did then you have an extra one if I mess up the one mounted in a wreck. Also made room for my CJDesigns fuel cell. It makes a little more on the bottom end and takes a little off the top end which is good for offroad riding.

Weight, yep,
Heat, yep,
Cost? Maybe,
Also consider the 1190 motor in the RC8 runs a 2 into1 so the system has already been developed,

I have Wings Ti muffler/spark arrestors on my 950. Will one of those be suitable for a 2 into 1?

To those with 2 into 1 would 2 into 1 be too restrictive with the DB killers? or still be sweet?

Many thanks Andi

I'm running akra-map and 02 on. My bike gives quite a lot of black smoke on high revs at full throttle with DB-killer in. Without DB-killer, no smoke at all.

Depends on the volume of the muffler. If it is one of the twin exhausts, then yes.

Mine had the 2:1 when I bought it. Put an Adv tank on. Nice combination. Especailly witt the stock muffler de-catted.

One pipe versus two, Lighter, Cheaper, Sounds GREAT (Quieter) More Low end torque, Going to put a CJ Box there eventually.
