July 2013

Hi Byways,

A couple of crazies and myself are looking for a 2 week ride in late July / early August this year. Your route looks like an excellent idea. Nice and remote, lots of flexibility, and not too much slabbing it to get to the start. We will be riding two 990R's and a 640ADV. I'll send you an email to purchase the route.

Just one question: as we will be leaving from the Aspen CO area, can we link up with the route somewhere around Meeker? Or would it be better to head to Steamboat or Grand Junction?

BTW, I met you outside the gas station at Dinosaur, CO IN 09. I was riding my orange 990ADV up to Canada to start the CDT, and you were heading south to meet up with friends to ride a portion of the TAT. It was nice chatting with you.

Thank you for putting routes like this together!

Cheers,

Dave

Oh my gosh, T.O.! I sooo do remember you! Amazing that we can reconnect through the asylum herein. We visited roadside. Your bike was new then, as I recall. A beater by now, I'll guess. Ha ha ha. I'm still on the same ol' KLR.

Meeker would be perfect; right on the route.

But "crazies ..." Heck ... this is an "asylum," is it not? Nobody normal in these parts ...

Shoot me a note to: backcountrybyways at gee mail dot com

It'd be fun to visit by phone, too! (Tho I'm off scouting in Wyoming sometime next week.)

Cheers!

Hi Byways, I'll email you today. I'm getting more excited about this trip every day. Only 6 weeks to go.

You are right. That bike was pretty new then, but after 40,000 odd miles (including CDT, TAT, AK etc) it was time to send it to a new home. I loved that bike and ended up with a almost new 990R last year - which I promptly proceeded to introduce to one of the local deer population at 70mph near Moab. All is well now though.

Looking forward to talking with you. If you are ever in the Roaring Fork Valley area, hit me up for a place to stay.

Cheers,

Dave

Westfest 2013

Backcountry Byways LLC is pleased to donate a free license to Heart of the West ADV Route to support Westfest 2013, in Buena Vista, Colorado.

Some lucky prize-winner is going to get the ride of a lifetime ...

Cindy @ Box Y Lodge Guest Ranch in Wyoming, a premier stop along Heart of the West ADV Route, sent me a reminder that she'll be able to accommodate HoW travelers only through Sept. 7.

Be sure to ask for your Heart of the West rate ...

After that, you'd better be wearin' camo, steering an ATV with antlers and packin' a long gun.

I wanted to thanks Tony for sponsoring the WESTFEST RALLY in Buena Vista, CO and providing a free copy of the Heart of the West Route.

I have been following this thread from the beginning and I feel it is one of the few true "adventure" rides you can do in the US. It has it all; isolation, scenery, challenge and the distance to see so much of the western states. I was hoping to do it next summer, but...life happens so it is on my radar down the road. I have done the CDT and just from what I have seen I think this route will be 100 times better

Thanks again Tony, I hope I can do this ride in the next few years.

Ben

If anyone from back east...namely Pennsylvania, would like to do this give me a shout. It looks awesome, but not something logistically I could pull off on my own in a 2 week vacation window.
