I know you have to keep them light and materials can get pretty crappy when you go light, so why not ALL aluminum frames? You would save a ton of weight. Then you would be able to be a bit more beefy with the cabinetry. Or all aluminum cabinets as well! Seriously, my boys would demolish some of those products.

Instead it seems that all the companies are concentrating on are TVs and speakers and curtains, and shiny crap. I want something I will be happy with 10 years from now. Not something I have to sell five years later for a tenth of the purchase price because everything broke and is rusted out.

I think when it comes down to it, I have to build my own...
Buy what is closest to what you want and improve/modify it to what you want. The_Filly & I have already started modding ours. Already beefed up the bed frame & sealed the places where bugs could possibly enter under the bed and added insulation too. Took apart one sofa and have a template made to construct a closet/shelving unit at the end of our bed. Then we'll be adding storage/bench seating all along the one side with taller cabinets too. I can share pics if anyone is interested

Here are some pics of the interior and what we have done so far

Bed area

TV mount (to be modified)

Kitchen (minor mods planned)

Looking to the back

TV mount now (removed panel, installed 2 shelves & new TV mount and 27" TV

Removed a sofa & reusing parts from that

Sofa base

Sofa base cut down to be used for new table (legs will be removed from original table) as original was way too big & too heavy

Skin from the sofa was trimmed as a template for the new shelves we'll be installing at the foot of the bed

More to come

Mobile Mancaves bump!

It's about time to start getting those mobile mancaves out for the year! My wife and I have decided to sell our Jayco Baja that I posted in this thread a few posts ago and thought I'd let anyone that might be interested in here know.

We LOVE this camper and will be sad to see it go, but we have future plans that it unfortunately doesn't fit into, so we have to send it on.

Here's a link to the for sale ad on ADV- http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...highlight=baja.

I had a similar setup in the same truck, I am short enough I was able to wedge a twin bed mattress across the bed in front of the wheel wells and sleep slightly crooked across that.

Some updates

Redid the bed frame, caulking, vapour barrier, insulation & new framing

Here are 5 cabinets/benches we built to line the wall with the large windo where we removed the one sofa. We are in the process of getting them stained & clearcoated & then we'll be adding shelves, doors, bench tops & cushions

My dad is taking a job back east for a year or so and wants me to have his 2001 7.3 F250 while he is gone. He doesn't want to sell it since it is low miles and rather rare these days. He also wanted to get one of the Outback 230rs Toyhaulers at some point:

http://www.lakeshore-rv.com/rvs/Outb...Toy-Hauler.cfm

I've now been thinking about buying the trailer myself, then traveling around to different races with my YZ250 and Pivot mountain bike in tow for a year. When my dad comes back to AZ I would hand it over. Only issue for me is I need to still have an income to pay for everything (minor issue, right?). My curent job can pretty much be done anywhere (GIS work) so long as I have a $25k key fob for the software with me. That's really the only problem I need to work past is convincing my boss that I will be responsible with the key and get work done....no kids, no gf, no pets, lease is up end of July. So close at this point...Or if I can find another job with remote work potential, or seasonal...

Here is my current lash up:

It has worked well and I've driven it over some pretty narrow roads. That said, the fifth wheel is for sale and when it's gone, I'm investing is a tandem axle v nose of some type, that I can haul dirt bikes, rhino or miata in. I want a short bit of counter, two bunks, lights and a furnace. Also a man door, vents and a few windows....It will be my hunting rig and racing hauler....I am thinking a mirage balboa as the base unit.

Made by Fleetwood/Coleman. This is the E1 and the last ones came off the production lines in 2011, no longer available and hard to find.
This one has 100W solar with 315Amp/Hrs worth of battery and is self sufficient needing no hookups.
