Service Manual for silencer cleaning
Anyone have a line on service manuals? The owners manual I download from GasGas USA doesn't cover much.
Until then, what does cleaning the silence entai? Is there a baffle packing inside that should not get wet or can I just spray it with degreaser and rinse. Thanks

On your bike, Yes - there is fiberglass packing wrapped around a perforated pipe. Dont get it wet.
The DVD's online (Utube channel) supply the best info. I believe there are threads online regarding silencer and midbox service. In general, you drill out the end cap rivots, (Silencer can stays on) and pull the perforated pipe out that is wrapped with old packing material and replace. Moose racing sells it. Clean the pipe well. Rewrap with same amount of material you pull out. You must get the perforated pipe back onto the midbox and can be alittle tricky. The pipe is swagged on the end that slips over the midbox pipe. Make sure the end of the perforated pipe that slips over it is round with rough edges flared out slightly/ (If the edges are bent inward, you cant get the pipe on easily). I also use a piece of dowel rod that fits inside the end of the midbox to help align the perforated pipe wrapped with packing. Might have to take a piece of wood and tap the pipe in all the way to get the end cap back in place. laser17 screwed with this post 12-09-2012 at 05:22 AM |
