Can 1979 xr250 be made street legal?
I have a chance to aquire a 1979 XR250 for a good price. It has a steel gas tank and head light only. I was wondering if it is feasable to add a tail/brake light and horn to this bike with its 6 volt system. Thanks in advance.

It depends what state you're in and how it's titled. Many states title dirt bikes as "off road use only" and it can be somewhere between difficult and impossible to get them plated. Some states it's very easy though. Just depends where you are.

I am in Idaho. I called the DMV and found out that it is an easy process once the work is done. I only need head/tail/brake light, horn, mirror and DOT tires. helpermonkey screwed with this post 12-10-2012 at 03:38 PM |

One of the requirements in California is that your lights have to be able to stay on without the engine running. It bascially requires a battery without stating in the code that your bike has to have a battery. Actually its not a bad idea if you plan on riding on the street at night.
