The Golden Spruce - Seton Ridge Road

I read "The Golden Spruce" too. What an amazing book!
The way the writer interwove the stories of Thomas Grant Hadwin, the Haida natives, the spruce tree, the Queen Charlotte Islands and BC logging history/issues was spellbinding.

From what I can tell it looks like you should be able to drive on the Seton Ridge Forestry Road and hike on the Seton Ridge Trail.

Here is some info I found on Seton Ridge Road & Trail:

"Seton Ridge follows the height of the land with dizzyingly steep drops of nearly 1600 meters to either side. Seton Ridge is the eastern terminus of the Cayoosh Ranges of the Coast Mountains of British Columbia."

Directions to road & trail from Lillooet: "From the Mile 0 cairn on Main Street follow Hwy 99 South on the Duffey Lake Road for 19.5 km and turn right on Seton Ridge Forsetry Service Road. Drive approximately 6km (from Hwy 99) Road crests the ridge, pullout to the left. Trail is approximately 125 metres on the left of an old road and is marked."

For more info you could contact British Columbia Ministryof Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations.

If anyone is interested in more info about "The Golden Spruce" here is an NPR article about an interview w/ the author:

Thinking about the Queen Charlotte Islands and the Haida people made me think about a story I read by Tim Cahill (one of my favorite adventure/outdoor writers - this is from his book "Please Pass the Butterworms (Remote Journeys Oddly Rendered)" - The story is called "The Queen Charlotte Islands: Life and Death (hee-hee) Tales of From the Place of Wonder"

p.s. Alexem - I like your tagline (had to look it up) "The dead ride fast"

I never read the book, but ..... I've been up on the Seton Ridge Rd, but not on a bike, although you could ride a bike up there, even a road bike, taking it easy.

This is a special area of BC, great for riding, camping/backpacking and exploring.

There is a couple of free campgrounds in the area, with the BC Hydro one at Seton Lake being the best of the lot.

Here are a few shots taken from near Seton Ridge Trail

As mentioned, Duffy Lake Rd (Hwy 99) is paved and is an awesome ride
You can easily spend a week in the area exploring and camping etc, if traveling on some gravel roads don't intimidate you.

Here is a Trip Report of the area, I did a while back on a Backpacking Forum I belong to.

If you go, you won't be disappointed.

No one is completely useless ....... they can always be used as a horrible example!
