Western Tanzania safety

Hello all, do you know something about safety in western Tanzania?
Next summer I plan to go from Rwanda to Tanzania passing by the Rusumo border crossing, to ride east to Mwanza (then north to Seregeti and Mara). About western Tanzania, between Rusumo and Mwanza, I've read different info: someone thinks it's safe, someone doesn't.
Is there anyone who has recent news?
