In about 9 hours, US vs OZ in the quarters......

I know we are insignificant still, but it is a huge leap forward for the program to go this far, even if we do get a bit of whipping. GO USA. Make a show of it.

OK, you "other code" aficionado's pipe down

Tonight it's the big one - All Blacks v. England.

NZ 14 games unbeaten since losing to England in this fixture last year (which in turn ended a potential world record winning streak). The All Blacks have a full strength squad and have picked 13 of the 15 from last year.

England, having cleaned up the Aussies and the Argies, must fancy themselves at home. England have some injury problems, but plenty to prove.

Should be a good battle up front but I fear for our line.

I'd love to agree with that sentiment, but not really.
I dont feel like we have been near convincing enough in our two games so far to give an excellent NZ team a real threat today.

Yeah, our only chance really, our backs aren't really in the same league right now. Up the jumper!

Slim chances at best.

+1

England have been less than convincing against a poor Convict side and Argentina.

Brave England finally overcome by "total rugby".

AB's just so devastating at rucks...good to see St. Richie get a good what for telling by Joubert though.

Joubert was good, but not as good as usual.
There was a lot of interference of the ball by that England got away with, and a dive that a Spanish Footballer would have been proud of.

I rate Kieran Read the best in the world right now in any position. I know McCaw has had some time off but he seems to have lost a step and I think Read outclasses him.

He is awesome, and unlike a lot of modern rugby players he looks like he's having a great time.

McCaw is slowly being replaced by Cane (or the other two or three class #7's waiting for a slip-up).

12 Thing Lancaster now knows (if he didn't already)

1. He knows how to create a side which gives everything for the shirt
2. Launchbury has the makings of one of the greatest ever England locks, and his partnership with Lawes has the potential to be exceptional
3. The pack he's put together is beginning to look very impressive
4. Wood, Robshaw and Billy/Morgan are a back row no one would look forward to playing against.
5. Twelvetrees and his classy passing have a promising future in international rugby...
6. ...but only if your three genuinely impressive stike runners aren't all injured at the same time (Manu, Yarde and Wade).
7. Tomkins doesn't have a future in international rugby; although Trinder's season has been blighted with injury he needs to be given a chance
8. Brown is a fabulous international full-back
9. A kicker who doesn't miss, like Farrell, is an essential
10. Both of the Youngs brothers struggle when the going gets tough
11. Ashton's day is gone (but bearing in mind Yarde and Wade would have played in the game if they hadn't both been injured, he clearly know that already)
12. It feels @#$%& when you're staring down the barrel of a gun against an apparently rampant NZ but then haul yourself back, somewhat inspirationally into the game and finally get into the lead but still ultimately lose in the last 10 minutes, when your replacements can't quite match the quality of some of your starters

Amusing quote from one of our local boards:

The answer is, "Northampton would be Premiership Champions and England would have beaten the ABs twice in row". What's the question?

Thats a good old list you have there Mr.Wildman. I agree on most counts, and that chimes with a nice feeling of positivity about England's game right now.
Lancaster is the best thing to have happened to the great game for a long, long time.

One quibble:
Quote:
10. Both of the Youngs brothers struggle when the going gets tough
I dont buy this one though. I would have Ben Youngs as my starting scrum half.

Haha! Something to do with Dylan Hartley and his big mouth?

There HAS to be a rule that if you concede 3 penalties in your own 22 it's a penalty try - HOW the hell did NZ keep getting away with illegally preventing England from scoring
