Anyone interested in ice racing?

I'm looking for other first timers who want to race on the non-studded tires.

Harry's Roamers MC has been putting on ice races for many years.

http://www.harrysroamersmc.com/

The races are about 15 miles north of Woodland Park at the Rainbow Falls riding area. $10 gate fee, $30 for an adult to race.

Dates:

January: 6, 13, 20, 27, February: 10

[NOTE] So far Jan 6th is the only date we know there will be a beginner group.

Here's a pic of the studded class (I'll be going a lot slower)

I went to watch three years ago and competed two years ago. I didn't want to have to buy a new set of tires and put ice screws in them so I joined the Novice Bare Tire class, but there were no others in my class, nor were there any B riders, so they put me in with the A riders. In a five lap race I got lapped by the entire field.

The kid's were cold.

My son raced too. I made him ride his sister's bike (PW80) which he wasn't happy about, until he took first.

I'd really like to try this again, but I want to race against some equally pathetic competitors. They need 4 participants per class. Anyone else interested? If you are interested, look at the dates in the first post and decide what would be best for you and let me know.

Looks like a bit of modifying involved with the fenders and such ? Do they let real idiots and bunnies ride without that stuff ?

I'm interested.....
So how did it work with the bare tire class. Could you even stay up?

Are you going to put screws in? That may be the deal breaker fro me, I cant buy a new set of tires for screws. I may be able to put some in the set I have on though.....

If you run bare tires you don't need the extra fenders. The biggest class by far is the Pee Wee class (I think there were 20 in the last race) so it's pretty safe.

I think I fell three times in my four laps (since I got lapped I couldn't finish my fifth lap). Part of the reason I fell so much was because I was trying to keep up with the rest of the group. If I were racing people of similar skill level I would have only fell once or twice.

Falling is part of the race. Chase fell once and still took first in his class of about 7 kids.

I entered in the bare tire class assuming that I could run on completely stock tires, but when I looked at the other guys tires, they had taken razor blades to them and chopped up the knobs so much that they just looked liked hairy tires. Apparently this helps a lot, but is destroys a pair of tires. They were also all on lowered bikes which helps you keep your balance.

The main reason I want to find other noobs is so I can run a stock height bike with stock knobbies so I can keep racing costs to a minimum.

I think it was $10 to get in the gate and another $25 to race. For your money you'll get practice laps (if you show up early enough), 2 qualifying heats, and a main event run. The classes aren't big enough that they need to eliminate people in the qualifying heats, so you'll get to run all three rounds.

This probably isn't the place to admit such a thing, but, I was just looking up the rules the other day for k-wad classes.

I have a half used D606 18" rear (off my XR628) you can have - there's enough meat left for screws or severe siping

You'd just have to find a front

Thanks for the offer Blake I would but for one race I doubt I would have time to get it changed any way. Ill just be prepared for this

So anyone else going to come and fill up the beginner class?

Im trying to convince my girlfriend that this is a good idea and that we should give it a shot. Her enthusiasm was similar to this: . Ironically I got the same response when I suggested that we go give Donnor a shot today. Im probably not going to have her convinced in time for this weekend, but I might have a chance at a later race.

There's a women's class, if she's interested in it.

It's to help keep people from hitting the ice screws when there's a wreck.
