What time to bikes start tomorrow?
As we say in Africa "Eish...."

I just looked CP4, its 68km from the ASS!! Its mostly downhill but there are a couple of very steep uphills too. But if he cuts the course and goes into the valley following it all the ay down he will make it. Providing he does not miss too many WP's, though I believe Ettienne will probably allow him that concession too given the heart he has put into it...

Come on Luis!!!!

I will admit, I wasn't a bandana fan at the begining of this rally. I do respect and admire Mr. Despres and watching him this rally has been truly amazing.

I think we would have seen the same from Coma had the tables been turned.

Edit:
Doesn't mean I'm going to trade my beer for Red Bull and run right down to the KTM shop.

Not tonight anyway.

".....put big tank on the 2X2X2....."

Well the 2X2X2 wouldn't be up to it, but I'm working on a new 2WD design presently, and that will definitely be "Dakar compatiable".

Having learnt from the 2X2X2 ( which was a clean sheet design ) - my new 2WD will ( hopefully ) be a bolt-on kit, fitting all the 4 Japanese 450 Enduro bikes and hopefully KTM / Berg too. It will be 100% mechanical ( no hydraulics this time ) and will hopefully not require any engine or frame mods - that's the plan at the moment anyway.

The cameras haven't caught any good "face plants" this year, but last year there were 2 caught on camera, Cody's mega crash being one. I suspect that these are more common with the 450 class bikes, as they don't have the "broad-band" grunt to unload the front wheel at will.

This is the aim I have for my new 2WD, that it will eliminate or vastly reduce the "faceplant" - plus being faster / safer in sand too. The design is 90% done, parts are 10% done...........

Silly me.

Most people hike at 5 km/h.....not through sand dunes, pushing a motorbike after riding the Dakar for 12 days

GO!!!!! Luis GO!!!!!!

I reckon about 15-20km of downhill freewheeling in some places and and maybe 30km of walking.....

Fuerza Luiz!!!

Grreat call from PYNDON - thanks Nate!!

What I think many of us dont realise is the power of F5support in the minds of the competitors; Pyn mentioned it on his call. When you have to dog deep, thats when you think of the guys shouting online, of your sponsors and friends. You start to do it for them.

Cyril- damn- if he was still riding BM twins I'd probaly have ot let him

Fucker could probably still win on one of those damn things.

He decided to stop and fix it 'properly' with liquid metal (I assume one of the metal loaded epoxies) and high strength cable ties. I.e. clean with petrol from the tank, wait to dry, epoxy the two halves to the fork leg and pull like hell on the ties to hold it together while it set.

Waiting for the epoxy to dry left him behind the rest of the bikes, and riding carefully after that meant he was slow. I got the impression that by half way it was "f... this, it hasn't broken yet it'll probably hold" and he picked up speed, by them the oil had likely burnt off the pads as well .

Forks were fixed by the WP service truck that happened to be at the bivvy and it looks like he's good to go again.

That was my interpretation of it, which may well be wrong. The podcast is great , I recommend making an effort to listen to it yourself at some point.

Pete
Awesome. Thanks for that and Go Pyn !!!

I heard he's not alone. A quad there too. Unsure of the quad's situation. But if nothing else, moral supoort.
They said, they are going up a dune. Time may not be on his side. But he has pulled off worse!

I must say Ettienne has always been good this way, he likes to get his hands dirty, helping those at the tail of the field.

Given that Faria is playing 2nd fiddle as Waterboy he's still right at the pointy end, even after what seemed to be team orders to slow down to let the boss catch up a few days ago I'd rate him if he could get a lead ride for 2013.

In fact to me it seems like he's even more deserving of a win than CDP this year, No Anything-gate as far as he's concerned.

Yes Faria has had a perfect ride. But to come back from where Cyril was on SS7 and still hold the lead comfortably really takes something special. Total Alien.
