I woke up thinking that Chalecos "chain" mishap and "gearbox" issue have to be related. Maybe he broke his engine case, not his tranny and had no option but to change it out.

was the chain the chicken or the egg?

My bet is that Chaleco is going all out and the others will be obliged to chase!

The "chain" was a quote from radio maray. The reporter that saw Chaleco looking at the bike, maybe got a little confused with all the emotion...

Well maybe not the engine changed, but the engine out, so it looked like a change?

Me queda 1 día, estoy 3° porq tuve que cambiar motor. Ha sido un gran Dakar, he ganado 4 etapas y me la jugaré por llegar a la meta mañana!

Any speculation on the consequences whilst riding hard, would it appear the have run out of gas?
