This whole JINCHENG thing is all smoke and mirrors, there is no question that they have never made copies, the bikes in '08 & '09 were actual XR250's with Honda rubbed off and Jincheng substituted ( or "New Motor" in '88 - who knows why ). In '10 & '11 the "Jinchengs" has morphed into actual Yamaha WR450's with Yamaha rubbed off and Jincheng substituted - with one kitted KTM 530 added for good measure - oddly still with KTM on the engine ( later in the event anyway ).

OK, I'm not at the Dakar this year, but there is no doubt that the 2 Jinchengs racing in 2013 are actually KTM 450 Rallye's - whether there are any KTM logos on them, I don't know.

The thing is, the ASO have allowed firstly XR250's, then WR450's and more lately KTM's to be officially entered as "Jinchengs" ( the WR450's as "JC450's" ) - how is this possible ?? The rules clearly state that all models must be homologated and be available for sale to the "general public" - clearly Jincheng have never offered any of the 4 models that they have raced, for sale. The models are homologated of course, but as Hondas, Yamahas and KTM's - but they are not entered as Honda / Yamaha / KTM. The option for other competitors to officially protest against this is there, but of course, the Jinchengs have never been high enough up in the results for anyone to bother.

As I mentioned in an earlier post - it's a bit of a mystery why Jincheng does it - or to us in the west anyway. Within China, Jincheng gets great publicity and Chinese people believe 100% that the Jincheng race bikes are Chinese made, After their 2010 results ( i.e. - first time both riders finsihed ) the Jincheng website was hilarious - like some Mao era propaganda - saying how western criticism of Chinese motorcycles had been silenced etc etc - all a load of bollocks of course.

So who knows their reasoning, whether it's a serious campaign to eventually turn up with a Chinese made bike, or whether it's just a "look at us on the world stage". As with most things in China, getting a straight answer is next to impossible.

Everyone (even himself) knows Chaleco has the 15' penalty. No point for Despres to guess.
