18:01 Cars: Km 23 becomes a car park
The cars seem to be having a hard time with the dunes at km 23, where a great deal of drivers are now stopped, among them, Dutchman Tim Coronel (Tom's twin) and Eric Vigouroux's Pick-up Chevrolet. Over ten vehicles are in difficulty right now.

maybe bikes had problems here too

Looks like Nasser's penalty has been lifted:

Finalmente ASO corrigió las planillas y Nasser Al Attiyah aparece normalmente sin penalidad en séptimo lugar de la general.

Sainz gets time awarded, and Nasser loses his penalty... all in 24 hours?

As a general rule,we estimate 18km/litre for fast tracks, dropping to 6/8km/litre for dunes when using our 690's in rallies. The trick is,in dunes especially,is to only put enough in to get to refuelling point,as excess weight, especially with big front tanks,is a killer in soft sand.
That is an advantage the Speedbrain design has over the conventional KTM 3-tank system, their weight is more over the rear, whereas the KTM/Honda have more front wheel weight, making dunes/soft sand a bit more difficult.
However,on very fast tracks, the large single rear tank can be a disadvantage, more "pendulum effect" when it gets sideways.
It is always a balancing act to design a bike with enough fuel, but not too much,so that performance and handling are compromised. But,a bike that runs out of fuel fails the main criteria, that to finish first, first you must finish!!
Another oddity we have found is that in the dunes, the quick guys can use less fuel than a slower rider,as they get stuck less, get lost less, and carry more momentum,so using higher gears(and less fuel).
