He's been 7' down since wp2... holding steady, still opening the track at wp8.

I guess I see changes like this as being too fast for the evolving spirit of the rally.

It was only 2010 when Coma was shamed, disgraced, and penalized 6 hours for what they are not only allowing now, but encouraging to take place. He stopped in the neutral zone and changed a wheel, a major no-no to being part and parcel of the regulations in a very short time.

I am not holding on to a blurring vision of the past, but this is a little more than the natural evolution of the event in my opinion.
I think it's easy enough to accept changes when they are done for a good reason (450 rule for example) but when they're done for reasons that appear random at best and seem to diminish the competition at worst then it's natural to rebel against those changes. Sure many of us felt that restricting the entry to 450s would diminish the spectacle (and maybe it has done in some repsects) but from a safety point of view and from the point of view of attracting more factory and semi-factory support it's hard to argue against. Allowing a service mid stage just seems nuts to me though.

17:07 Cars: Sainz close to dropping out?
Carlos Sainz is at a standstill after 181 km of the special stage and is having mechanical problems with his buggy. The Spaniard has signalled that it is an engine problem that neither he nor co-pilot Timo Göttschalk can repair.
